572728 2007-07-25 22:38:00 When you say movies, do you mean DVD's?
Or is it any type of video?
If it is a DVD, then the problem is in the fact that modern video cards have hardware acceleration of mpeg 2 video (eg, DVD). Most (if not all) players are automatically set to use the hardwarwe accel as it gives the smoothest playback for watching movies.
The downside of this is that this hardware acceleration ONLY WORKS ON THE PRIMARY MONITOR. In your case, the primary monitor is your laptop monitor.
There are two ways around this problem. The first is to tell your media player not to use hardware acceleration (option can usually be found in settings, sometimes as output mode). The option may have something to do with overlay.
The second option is to make the TV the primary display, or output to the TV only. Outputting to the TV only will disable your laptop monitor completely.
As I have never used an ATI card, I do not know what the settings are to do this with your laptop, but it wont be hard to do.

572730 2007-07-25 23:24:00 WMP isnt exactly the best program to use. If u have PowerDVD install it.

And to fix the prob completely burn them to DVD somehow.

572731 2007-07-26 00:06:00 Aight I will try that..
But you do know I can see the picture - like desktop and stuff, just not movies.. most of them are AVI formats.

Hi, i think you need to enable Full screen video on the TV (monitor 2) or something like like. Used to know the setting for Nvidia cards, however not on the ATI cards.
You can see your desktop etc okay on the TV, but not video correct!

Your issue is a common problem. I suggest you check out ATI web-site for specific issues regarding 'Full Screen TV'

572735 2007-07-26 05:50:00 This is a problem that i have lived with for years and cant find a proper fix but there is a workaround. If you go into the display settings of the graphics card and turn hardware acceleration off, apply this setting and then experiment by sliding the slider up one notch at a time (press apply each time) you will find the video appears. I have to do this each time i want to play a DVD using the s-video output and after a reboot, its really annoying. Good luck !! borax (7078)
572736 2007-07-26 06:13:00 Might try the above tonight, as i have a similar problem... i can get my dad's laptop to run oin the tv but not mine and mine has a nvidia card which is newer than his. LazDang (12427)
