572446 2007-07-25 07:22:00 I would probably opt for Dicksmith myself, otherwise if your ascent computer has problems they are going to moan at you, however if they buy a name brand from dicksmith they can go moan to the company.

Nonsense. Ascent has excellent after sales service.

572448 2007-07-25 07:50:00 Build your own. Then you know exactly what's going into it and you can install windows how you like it, rather than how Dell likes it (ie: full of crap) Agent_24 (57)
572449 2007-07-25 08:06:00 A family friend got a Dell PC and the AMOUNT_OF_BLOATWARE Dell installs is amazing!!!

Indeed I am not far. Will have to see what the parents want.

572451 2007-07-25 09:30:00 Build your own is a good idea if you have just a small bit of experience and understand anti-static procedures.
Otherwise take Consumer Mag advice which to buy from a specialized computer shop not a chain store.

572452 2007-07-25 10:54:00 Built yourself, or built for you by a normal PC shop, it will still be better than a brand name PC Agent_24 (57)
572453 2007-07-25 11:02:00 Don''t buy a dell cause it will crash in 5 mins as the others have said buy one you can build yourself and that way you know if something goes wrong then its your fault.
What OS are you going to chuck in it Vista will be fun to run and run and run and run.

Most likely chuck in XP for them.
