574309 2007-07-30 08:14:00 put my computer on standby this morning when I rushed out
and later tried to wake it up after I got home

half the time this doesn't work so I was ready to restart anyway
but then some weird alarm went off, from the case speakers
I knew this wasn't the CPU overheating because the alarm is different...

so after the usual restart, I noticed POST codes displaying..um.. I thought I never turned that on..
then there's this message saying how my CMOS check failed and default settings now used
quickly went into bios and changed the settings back to what I had before
and luckily now my computer works fine

so.. anyone experienced this or know the cause of it?
I don't really want this to happen again..

Your cmos battery is flat/not recharging any more, fit a new one (usually a CR2032 type but look on your motherboard first), about $6-$7 at Dick Smiths.

The CMOS CR2032 battery is not a rechargeable battery. Never has been.
Only very old 286 PC's and earlier had NiCd rechargeable CMOS backup batteries.

New World Supermarket battery display racks have them a few $ cheaper than DSE.
