No doubt you do just that. SP-2 cannot protect the stupid, the illiterate and the n00bs if they screw up their system with porno, P2P or seeded file sharing. That seems to be the first interest when a n00b gets online anyway. OK..it's a concept thing here, and not an absolute...as I never said it was absolute anyway. I am not going to talk down to anybody regarding their efficacy pertaining to grand-parental conditions or lack of them or the gravidness involved...not even spatial concepts or again, lack of them either. Here's where I am coming from..<damned dangling thing on the end of a sentence ...sorry>.... SP-2 is important for (and if this is the ONLY reason, it's good enough)...the improvement of Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer security issues. I don't care what you've been told..and yes, Virginia, there is NO Santa Claus but there IS WGA and WDRMs involved. BUT IN THE LONG RUN..a n00b is far better off getting some help than running around naked on the internet with an unprotected and un-firewalled puter no matter what alignment you may or may not have with SP-1, SP-2 or NO SP at all. It's a n00b thing...not about a highly technically oriented expert such as yourself who(m) I am talking about here. A naked puter has about 30 seconds to live in a virginal state before it gets hammered by malware (names supplied if interested) if it doesn't have a firewall or the updates to the revised security settings in IE pertaining to ActiveX Components. I personally think ActiveX is the worst offender here. Take it to heart that there are still n00s out there..and there are more coming online every day who haven't a fiddler's chance in Rome of staying clean enough to NOT infect you and me if they were to only have the right anti-malware systems at least running in a perfunctory way. There...I said it...and I believe it is written in stone that I would rather have some protection from OTHER users than none at all. If we play on the same level field, then we are all improved in the end. SP-2 is good. The reference to Spam and it's ilk was just an indicator of the people who don't know yet that Mr. Mgumbo isn't real...like they also don't know the whole ramifications of realtime protection...they need to get smarted up pretty quick...and it's kinda bad that to go online one needs to have at least an inkling of IT smarts to stay alive here in the etherworld. That's the way the belly buttons and I am sorry you don't get the picture...maybe I dumbed it down too much to understand. Give them a fair start with SP-2 for crying out loud. |

Most of the farmers and small business PCs I have removed malware from are doing such things as MYOB, Cashbbok, MINDA, emails and so on. Most of the kiddies here with porn and warez have antimalware already installed. |
