573978 2007-07-29 16:19:00 Hi All, A relation had XP Home reinstalled (because of viruses) on her compaq laptop. There is only one user account showing with limited privileges. There is NO administrator account at all and I am unable to create one for her as her ONLY log on account has limited privileges. It means she can't do any adminstrative work on XP at all. Is there any way to create an Administrator account? Will re-installing solve this problem? Thanks. ephesus (2509)

safe boot then the administrator account will show, hopefully you know the password, logon as admin either change the user account status or create a new account

or logout
press ctrl alt del keys twice type in administrator then password

Administrator user is a hidden user but still can be used if you know the password

573980 2007-07-29 23:42:00 Have tried safe boot but only 1 account is showing which is the limited account. Also tried ctrl del keys twice which also show only 1 account. Unfortunately I do not know the administrator password (if there is any) when XP was reinstalled. Is it possible to reinstall XP without an Administrator account? ephesus (2509)
573981 2007-07-29 23:57:00 Is it possible to reinstall XP without an Administrator account?

No. Or else you wont be able to install most programs. As most programs wont install, without an Admin account.

What viruses / trojans were on it?

573982 2007-07-30 00:10:00 Not sure but it was cleaned and reinstalled by another person. That;s why I can't install programs on it. Is there a default Administration XP password if there is an Admin Account. ephesus (2509)

573986 2007-08-14 09:34:00 I know this is an fairly old post but I remember having a problem similar to this awhile ago

there is a way to create a admin account there is a progam called erd commander and it works like a charm Ithis progam is very handy... just google it you may find a site to download it from I have had it sitting in my HD for awhile now just in case

the other way is to re:install your OP sys and this time get her to right down her admin password that would help out alot

hope this helps
