575093 2007-08-01 12:12:00 Hi Team

I was installing an updated technical instrument program on my Toshiba Libretto (runs W95, 700KB HDD) and the installation failed near the end with "Error 1723, a DLL required for installation could not be run". (Why the heck don't they say what DLL it was that they couldn't find, the program must know or it couldn't post the error message!!)

I googled fairly extensively and found several comments suggesting that MS DCinst95 needed to be run, so I found, downloaded and installed it but without success.

I have logged a support call with the instrument & software supplier (PicoScope) but don't expect an answer any time soon so I'm asking the brains trust for help.

An installation of the same software on W2K earlier in the evening went without a hitch.

Cheers

575097 2007-08-02 01:05:00 OK, I downloaded that but it doesn't install either. The error message is: "The specified service already exists".

Do I attempt to uninstall it then reinstall, or is that pointless?

Cheers

575098 2007-08-02 01:14:00 What about this ? (support.microsoft.com)

The resolution is the same as error 2737.

Only thing is it doesnt say 95.

Guessing now, so your guess may be better than mine, but I say worth a crack.

Yes, the missing W95 is a worry and the references to installing XP over W98 are a bit of a put-off. However, at least it mentions a DLL, so nothing stops me installing Advapi32.dll into W95 and seeing if it works. :D

Watch this space.........
