574872 2007-08-01 03:32:00 My PC (WinXP SP2) has started making a funny noise (via the speakers) every 30 seconds. It sound a bit like "bong bing - pause - bing bong", a bit like the "found new hardware" noise. There is nothing on the screen, and <ctrl-alt-del> shows no applications running. I have reviewed the startup files and deleted a few useless ones, but to no avail. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mack Holmes

574873 2007-08-01 03:37:00 Have you installed any new hardware or made any changes to the pc lately? When did this nosie start sounding exactly? ronyville (10611)
574874 2007-08-01 04:16:00 Have you got an internal card reader? It's possible it's malfunctioning. Also have you rebooted the PC since the problem started?;) wratterus (105)
574875 2007-08-01 05:18:00 The problem seemed to start when I was performing a Hot Sync with my Sony Treo (Palm) via bluetooth. I haven't installed any new software. I have re-booted several times, ran countless diagnostic programs - Norton, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc to no avail. I have a card reader in my HP "Photosmart 130" but haven't used it lately. Disconnecting it has not helped.

574876 2007-08-01 05:23:00 You might want to uninstall the Norton part of your antimalware suite. winmacguy (3367)
574877 2007-08-01 06:03:00 Complete uninstall of Norton has not helped.

574878 2007-08-01 06:03:00 Makes me think of a joke:

Two cannibals find a dead clown on a jungle trail, and decide to eat him.

One asks the other after a few bites: "Does this taste funny to you?"

OK..I'll go back to the Chat side.......

574880 2007-08-03 04:25:00 The Norton "idea" was not an idea.

The fact that ithe beeping regular suggests that "something" is looking
for "something".

What happens if you try synchronising the Palm again? Perhaps you shut it down "abnormally" last time, and it's trying to find the Palm to complete a process. Or try disabling the Bluetooth interface and reenabling it. That probably doesn't show as an application, but it could still be doing things like beeping. ;)

574881 2007-08-03 04:26:00 Can you make a MP3 and upload it to YouTube or some place?

I'd like to hear it before I make any more silly remarks.

Wait..GOT IT!

It's your USB connex-disconnect detector...
