574559 2007-07-31 10:17:00 I've recently just cloned my old seagate drive onto a new one using the
Seagate Disc Wizard, everything seemed to go perfectly except now when
I try to disconnect any hardware attached via usb using the Safely Remove
Hardware tool I get this error message:

An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
hotplug.dll"

Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it?

Thanks as always.

(P.S. System is Win XP SP2 up to date)

Yeah I found that page too... I tried the windows repair last night, but after the repair, I could not update windows, it would not install any of the 77 updates I downloaded after the repair.

So after spending the night trying to fix it, I finally gave up and re cloned the original drive hoping to fix the original problem.

Thanks for the suggestion... Any other ideas....?

Cheers.

574562 2007-07-31 10:52:00 Dont use that program, for cloning?

Or send Seagate an email.

Is this the 102 mb file that Acronis did??

If it is I would send them an email.

574563 2007-07-31 11:51:00 You will probably need to reinstall windows update, at least (you can find it on microsoft's site, the installer may need to be run with the '/WUFORCE' switch)

I've used seagate disc wizard before, didn't like it, it was bad at copying all the files.

Norton ghost on the other hand... never had a problem with that

574564 2007-07-31 23:24:00 I prefer Ghost too, however I have recently found when copying a HDD Win Update gets somehow screwed over. Really don't understand it, but heres the fix for it :D

Reboot in safe mode.

Delete the following files, all in c
c:\windows\system32

wuapi.dll
wuauclt1.exe
wuauclt.exe
wuaucpl.cpl
wuaueng1.dll
wuaueng.dll
wuauserv.dll
wucltui.dll
wupdmgr.exe
wups.dll
wups2.dll
wuweb.dll

Also while still in safe mode delete c:\windows\software distrubution
and c:\windows\windowsupdate.log and .txt

Then reboot, do another repair -reinstall and the Windows Updates should work!

574565 2007-07-31 23:36:00 The easiest way is just download

download.windowsupdate.com

and run it with /wuforce switch.

I did a repair install of windows on the cloned drive and then ran the updater with the /wuforce switch. It has worked like a charm!

I just wanted to say thanks for the help and suggestions! The Pressf1 Forum wins again....

Cheers.
