2007-07-31 04:38:00 | I installed Win Xp on my new 250 Gb hard disk and rest of the hardware is the same. I also installed SP2 and all the available updates after this. Everything went well but now I have no audio. The device manager shows no problem and my onboard AC 97 device is recognised and the drivers have been installed and there are no conflicts. I have been looking on the web for answers and this seems to be a common issue especially for a fresh install with Radeon video cards. I am not sure how they are connected though. The strangest thing is that I also have Ubuntu Linux in another partition and the sound works just fine. When I try to play an audio fine in Win Media player, I get a message saying "no audio device". Also, when I open the sound and audio options in control panel, all audio features are greyed out saying no audio device. Any help will be highly appreciated. | madan284 (7145) | |

Don't disable the device, just delete the driver! ...might work! and it's simple to see if it's just a driver problem instead of looking all over the place for an answer |

2007-07-31 04:59:00 | Thanks for the quick replies, guys. The audio drivers have indeed been installed and the device is showing up in the device manager with no exclamation marks. I just disabled my fax-modem, but still no luck | madan284 (7145) | |

2007-07-31 05:02:00 | I have tried uninstalling the drivers and rebooting countless number of times and each time windows detects the hardware. It then goes on to install the drivers and in the end declares the device is ready to use. But when I tried to play any audio file, media player says no sound card. | madan284 (7145) | |
2007-07-31 05:04:00 | No, sound and audio device is not on the modem, in fact all the tabs are greyed out saying no devices found. | madan284 (7145) | |
2007-07-31 05:10:00 | Whatever u do, dont get any drivers from the Windowsupdate site! If you go here often . . . . . well . . . . let me tell on you sumpthin, Speed! I have that older Hauppauge 2000TV card that I was running for over a year on the Windows driver only, and I got the bright idea to update from the manufacturer's site and I still haven't got it figgered out . Hit me now . . . . permission to strike idiot . I got 1/2 screen, the top was snow and I don't LIKE to see snow! The sound was out of sync and I just gave up using the card on that computer, so I popped it into another (Dell/P-III, 750) and just let the wizard have his way with it . . . and it works fine! So . . . I really don't think the Windows drivers are ALL that bad . . . seems the drivers from the manufacturer's are sometimes bad too . Just a thought . . . . but I wonder why there's so much difference in opinion about the Windows drivers-site, pro or con .
