574328 2007-07-30 13:28:00 Hi there!
I think I'm getting to the source of the problem, but from what I've found out, all the sites and answers seem a few years old!
So I thought I'd ask for a more up to date confirmation on how to fix the fact that all my AVI's now play sound but with a green screen!
It seems that removing all the codacs and DivX player is the common reply on most forums, re-booting, then installing new codacs and various (heaps of answers there) different players (as per a persons taste, I guess).
Two programs I see a lot of are the 'Nimo Codac Pack' and 'FFDSHOW' but version 01-03-2003. The Nimo Codac Pack I found is 5.0 build 9 beta 1, but even they suggested it may be unstable. So the latest stable download was 5.0 build 8. So I've downloaded that. As for FFDSHOW and this '01-03-2003' version, well I couldn't find that version and the newest version I found was ffdshow_rev1381_20070729_clsid.exe (version 1381 29-07-2007??) which appears to be the latest.
So can any one help with this 'green screen of death'??

Many regards,
The Cell :D

PS I believe that one can actually change the colour of the 'blue screen of death' somehow (in the BIOS??) but do know it's not that! Gosh, I'm klever!

574329 2007-07-30 21:46:00 You can try the newest ffdshow (from 2007) as it will play most types of .avi's. I'm not sure what media player you're using but you could also give VLC or Media Player Classic a try. VLC includes all the necessary codecs in it's install package and will play pretty much anything.

Video Help (http://www.videohelp.com/) is a good site if you get stuck.

I thank you! I tried the ffdshow (latest one I think) and it seems ok!
However, I actually fixed the problem, er, by accident! It was my NVIDIA drivers doing it! I must admit I'd forgotten I'd updated them with some sort of 'all-in-one' NVIDIA suggested. By chance I was looking at 'System Restore' and saw I'd set a point for that! Click on 'Restore' before that and low and behold... no green screen!
Any way, thanks for the pointers, much appreciated!
Regards,

Thanks very much for pointing that out! Yes it is of course codEc as you point out. Pointing that out made sense as I'm sure that others out there would not have realised what I was talking about. I'm not too 'up' on these things and I could imagine that if you had of pointed that out for others before, I would have got me a lot more answers. But perhaps you didn't see it till too late. Again, I thank you for pointing that it's codec not codac. A lot of people may not have realised that what I was after may have been a codec issue and would have been confused by my typing codac. I guess, like you sugest, that my miss-spelling would have confused a lot of people that may have been able to help. I understand that maybe if some one read it who did not have English as their first language, it would have confused them. Even those who read English fluently may not have realised that what I meant was codec and not codac as I miss-typed. Pointing out my typing mistake was a good thing to do, I thank you again very much for pointing out that I typed codac instead of codec. I feel I may have got a lot more answers if I had of typed codec instead of codac. Many thanks again.

PS In case I've made any other speelling mastikes in my anser to autechre, the ishue is now sloved. Thank you again!

574333 2007-08-02 16:23:00 i'm so glad you appreciated my obversation. What you perhaps didn't realise is that with computing you MUST be accurate in your spelling. computers are totally literal and if you for example misspell a word during the construction of a program your program wont work. Also tiny errors such as yours can lead to considerable confusion when people try to help you as for example 'adaware' and 'ad-aware' are two totally different programs........one being antispyware and one being actual spyware in and of iteslf... drcspy (146)
574334 2007-08-02 21:53:00 Yes, yes, bored now!
Yet again, I thank you for that.
Sadly, I'm not really that good with computers. If they go wrong I'm not that confident to do things to them. I need to find a forum to help me with computers! Point me in the right direction etc.
No wait! That IS what this forum is supposed to be isn't it!
Any way, I don't think I can praise you any more as even my keyboard is starting to fall asleep.
If you need to gain some points on this forum, tell me how to add to yours and I'll do it.
Many regards,
:groan:

May I point out to you the importance of case sensitivity and character use during construction of a program.

Oh wait. This is just a post on a computer help forum, not the source code to a spelling-bee program.

Seen a few rather pathetic corrections pointed out to such minor typos/spelling errors lately. Hope those people feel bigger and better for doing so.

574337 2007-08-03 02:43:00 oh yes i DO feel 'bigger and better'........as for needing more 'points' on this forum ?......no I dont think so after several years of posts I reckon i've clocked up quite a number already thanks

and as for
Pot calling kettle black.....lol sure I do allow the odd spellign error (see I did one just then) to creep in BUT .........NOT when I'm naming some program/process/file or other thing of similar nature. because I've seen a few wild goose chases caused by such.
