575030 2007-08-01 20:55:00 I wouldn't say a lot of us are anti-mac. WE are just sick of hearing how mac can do this, and mac can do that, and you dont need that in a mac, or you dont need to use that in a mac (and these comments are usually posted in non-mac relevant threads). When you shove something down someones throat long enough, of course they are going to learn to hate it.
Its like a non-stop monologue, initiated by one one particular poster in this forum. Can you guess who?

Addition: just one final comment, ever notice, of all the Linux users in this forum; that not one of us does the same thing ("Linux can do this, and Linux can do that, and Linux was made by so and so who should be <insert deity here>"). Sure we might say that Linux does what we want, and we prefer this distro, but generally we sit back, enjoy the system we have set up, and help others with it where we can

575032 2007-08-01 22:29:00 I will probably get critisized for saying this but you may want to install an anyi-virus, not so much to catch any mac OSX nasties but more to check any mail/files you receive and you then forward to someone, Being on a Mac is not going to prevent you passing on a PC Virus if you receive an infected file, the nasty won't effect the Mac, but the person you forward it to may get infected
It's probably pretty unlikely but something to be aware of

That is true Nigel, But I'm under the impression that I will let each computer owner take care of there own security. Not starting a war, but why should a mac/linux user run antivirus software for the sake of windows users, when that was one of the reasons I changed. If i owned a windows machine(which I'm looking closely at) I will use an AV

Fine, I've turned it on anyway.

Nigel, I won't be using the mac for email, just checking how the networking/web browsing went.

575036 2007-08-02 05:57:00 Clamxav is regularly recommended by a lot of Mac users in cross platform environments when Windows machines need to be protected from malware although I am inclined to agree with plod unless the responsibility of Windows security on a Mac network falls on the Mac admin's shoulders. winmacguy (3367)
575037 2007-08-02 06:49:00 I know in my instance, I do admin my network (which consists of one linux computer and various windows computers) Myth (110)

575039 2007-08-02 07:47:00 No point - if I did run one, then how am I supposed to get infected? :p

Keeps me in practice and also gives me good reason to do regular backups
