574457 2007-07-31 05:11:00 No, sound and audio device is not on the modem, in fact all the tabs are greyed out saying no devices found.

......can you screenshot/upload what you see?

574458 2007-07-31 05:49:00 May sound silly==but have you checked your programme's volume controls? Had no sound once and it cost me a pro's visit to find that my controls were off! Tick1 (6970)
574459 2007-07-31 05:55:00 I do not have a volume control to increase. And my speakers are working fine. I will post some screen shots soon. At the moment I am using Linux. Thanks madan284 (7145)
574460 2007-07-31 06:03:00 You should have a speaker symbol down the bottom left corner on the task bar. Double click on the to bring up volume controls. Also check that the wave and cd ones and any other ones you might use are not set to muted.

574461 2007-07-31 06:13:00 The speaker symbol you are talking about is enabled thru' the Sounds, video and game controller in the Control Panel. But in my case when I click on that the whole thing is greyed out. That is my whole problem!! I do not have a device to make changes to, though the device manager says that the drivers have been loaded and the sound card has been detected!
When I Googled, this appears to be a common problem discussed in various forums. But I just can't seem to find a solution to it

574462 2007-07-31 06:31:00 My last shot here:

Are you running a digital output when an analog output or vice-versa is required?

It's in the settings in the Control Panel I think.

574465 2007-07-31 10:32:00 I tried the drivers from Realtek, but still the same. No sound and everything else works fine. madan284 (7145)
574466 2007-07-31 11:22:00 By your screenshot I can see what your problem is. That volume control is fogged out which it shouldn't be, and is at zero hence no sound. Not sure how to fix it. What chipset dose your mother board have ? See if you find a solution here. search.techrepublic.com.com

I notice some posts with a similar problem
