575192 2007-08-01 23:41:00 Is there a command that you can put into the run box to autoplay a disk?

I'll try to explain myself a bit better.

Lets say my CD Drive is the E drive: In the run box I can type e: and it will open up the e: in an Explorer window. I can type in e:\setup.exe (for example) and setup on e: will run.

I was wondering if there is a command you can use to autoplay a disk??

EDIT: Running XP, and I'ts not because a disk or autoplay isn't working... Just wondering

TIA:cool:

575193 2007-08-01 23:54:00 If you mean when u burn a cd, then yup u can add an autorun.inf text file to the cd, before you finalise it.

Info here (support.microsoft.com)

All u do, is create a new text file (autorun.inf), with notepad/wordpad, put the commands u want in it, save it, then add / burn it to the cd...

Then when you've finished / finalised the cd, (and then put the cd back into the cdrom/dvd), it'll look at this file, (if its in the root folder of the cd - dont put it in a folder), and if the commands in it are valid, it'll load setup.exe, or the main install file on the cd.

You'll notice that if you've got any pcworld or maybe other cd's, open it it'll have an autorun.inf file in it. Open autorun.inf.

This is what brings up the menu, if the cd has one.

There are also programs around, that do the same thing, as well as let u add menus etc before you burn whatever to a CD/DVD.

575194 2007-08-01 23:58:00 Cheers Speedy, I already do that with a lot of my disks, I was thinking more along the lines of, for example, when you put a CD with pictures on it in a drive, windows 'autoruns' the disk and asks you want you want to do with it. I was wondering if there is something you can type into the run box to make windows do that when the disk is already in the drive, the equilivant of going into My Computer and right clicking on the drive and clicking autoplay. wratterus (105)
575195 2007-08-02 00:04:00 autoplay a disk??

It will depend on what is on the Disk. Are you trying to create a disk that autoplays or are you wanting an existing disk to play.

Normally Autoplay Defaults to your default player but it can be changed.
Eg. If you put in a DVD with a movie oon it and you have likes of PowerDVD installed that will autorun as the default player when you insert the DVD.

If you have a CD of Images your Default Image viewer can be set to Open when you insert a CD of images.

Most times the Autoplay dialogue box comes up asking what you want to play a certain CD/DVD with, but you can set defaults.

575196 2007-08-02 00:12:00 I'ts not because a disk or autoplay isn't working...

I've put a disk in the drive with some music on it. I cancel the original autoplay box windows brings up. Now I want a quick method of autoplaying the disk again, from the run box, rather than reinserting the CD or going into My Computer and autoplaying the disk from there. I am just wondering if there is such a command.

575197 2007-08-02 00:15:00 It should come up with whatever program to play it with. Select it and tick always use this program for this action.

Then it shouldnt ask again. The program you selected should open and play it.

And no I dont think there is something u type under run. Thats what the window that comes up is for.

Like even tho I've got WMP, when I put a DVD in, I've made it to run / open DVD X Player instead.

Since it doesnt need codecs, like WMP does.

575198 2007-08-02 00:25:00 I don't want a particular program to run the disk, read my posts again carefully.. wratterus (105)
575199 2007-08-02 01:04:00 Well like I said, its a program, or do what you've done, or nothing.

There is no way to run it from run since it'll still need a program to open it then play it.

575200 2007-08-02 01:26:00 Guys, take a moment to read watterus' posts. He doesn't want advice on how to make an autorun disk. He doesn't want advice on how to set a default autoplay action. He doesn't want to know how to trigger the autorun action for a specific disk. He just wants a way to trigger the general windows autoplay behavior, for any cd that's already in the drive, from the run box!

In other words, he wants a command to run that re-triggers whatever occurs when you insert the disk, or choose autoplay from the drive menu in explorer. He doesn't want to trigger the exact handler for the specific disk, but rather the general windows handler that will then decide what to do on its own and display boxes / launch programs etc according to what's on the disk.

He's said this several times, in several different ways...
