576283 2007-08-04 06:59:00 Did you try starting in safe mode with networking ?

Other option if you can try another adsl modem,I have found the Dlink 502's can sometimes cause connection problems, in fact I had a customer last week with the same connection problem , changed the modem - all fixed
Also is the network connection built in or is it a seperate network card?

This is a process of elimation to find the fault.

Dummy here forgot one of the basic fixes (oops I need to stop working LOL) go to control panel, open the network connections, right click and select "repair"

576287 2007-08-04 08:38:00 Before purchasing a new card try one last thing- go back to device drivers,( right click my computer/properties etc) right click the network card and uninstall it. Reboot and it should automatically pick it up again and reinstall the drivers. If it doesnt auto reinstall, the drivers may be damaged. It may also ask for drivers which will be on a floppy or CD.

One other thing I usually do in the work shop in cases like this to test the hardware is start the PC up with a live CD ( linux) The OS is called Knoppix. It boots from the CD, completely bypassing windows, that way you can configure the software to run on your hardware and if it still wont connect then its usually hardware related. If it does connect then its windows being windows, and may need to be reinstalled after saving all your data. It is possible that windows has become damaged and causing these problems.

Thats all for tonight I got 2 PC's reinstalling on the work bench and its saturday at 8.00pm Blo**Y Hell :dogeye:

PS if you need a new card, Dick smiths sell basic cards for under $20.00, it would pay to get a new one.

576288 2007-08-04 08:49:00 I was in this situation, go to DSE and refund it if it not compatible for you.
It could be the modem router or the LAN card.

I had issues of crossover cable not work but straight cable works to router.
I say buy a cheap LAN card from DSE and try it .. if no working, refund it.
Then if your modem router is returnable still try to swap that for another and try out.. and if not you can refund that ... trial and error.

576290 2007-08-04 09:36:00 I have also had the same problem for two weeks. Try taking your phone cable out of the phone jack. Your phone might be causing the problem. I have two phones connected in the phone jack, I have taken one out and so far the problem with adsl is gone. tricia11 (12627)
576291 2007-08-04 10:25:00 Your modem has a USB port. Installl the drivers for that first, and then try connecting via USB and see what happens.

You mentioned you installed a patch from Microsoft for this. Was that the one for machines with XP suddenly giving this (false) error message after SP2 is installed?
