| 575618 | 2007-08-03 10:35:00 | Just don't get macs, too expensive and you get nothing but a white case for it. I mean the cheapest one for Uni students is $1999!!:eek::eek:Correction: $1699. I'll leave it to winmacguy to do the Macs aren't actually more expensive thing. :) | maccrazy (6741) | ||
| 575619 | 2007-08-03 12:00:00 | Integrated graphics would not be the only bad thing about the mac, there is also the extremely limited amount of games available for macs. I would want an all rounder laptop in the case I opt to or get forced to change degrees, and you never know, I might end up doing some course that requires a computer/laptop with a bit more grunt. |

Pardon me for asking but how much time are you planning on devoting to studying to become a lawyer?:confused: Last time I heard there was a bit involved. |

Integrated graphics would not be the only bad thing about the mac, there is also the extremely limited amount of games available for macs.That's true, although your post did mentioned the Battlefield series and Battlefield 2142 is due out soon for Mac OS X. I think you will see a general increase in the number of Mac games coming out in the next few years if the recent EA and ID announcements are anything to go by. Of course, you can also install Windows natively on Intel based Macs for anything that won't run. I would say, with the exception of games, the MacBooks are pretty good all round laptops regardless of your degree, but it really depends on your specific needs and personal preferences. Pardon me for asking but how much time are you planning on devoting to studying to become a lawyer? Last time I heard there was a bit involved. You can't study 24 hours a day. :p |

| 575623 | 2007-08-03 22:46:00 | Just put it this way, I don't want to get a year into university and discover I need a graphics card, perhaps apple should not be so narrow minded and realize that people who use so called 'portables' may in fact need some graphics strength beyond integrated graphics. Yeah and I can't study all the time, what am I supposed to do in university breaks/holidays? (other than getting totally wasted!) Do you guys think regardless of mac or pc it is worthwhile getting 2gb of ram? plus what core 2 duo chip should I be aiming to get at least? |
JSF_enthusiast (8536) | ||
| 575624 | 2007-08-04 00:17:00 | It would be worthwhile to get 2GB of RAM, or at least 1GB of RAM with one spare SODIMM slot to allow later upgrades. I would suggest at least 1.8GHz Core 2 Duo chips, JSF. Cheers :) |

| 575625 | 2007-08-04 00:39:00 | I have been 'advised' not to go any higher than 2gb of ram unless i get a 2.2ghz chip as anything lower won't be able to make use of the extra memory, that sound about right? | JSF_enthusiast (8536) | ||
| 575626 | 2007-08-04 00:41:00 | Since you want Vista, I'd strongly recommend getting 2GB of ram. Getting more is too expensive, and getting less will be at the cost of performance. | somebody (208) | ||
