Good Instructions pctek, firzen - one item that you have to look for when doing a reinstall like pctek mentioned is after you press enter( first prompt) then F8 to agree to the license, in the next window, it MUST detect your old operating system, as it will ask which OS to repair, if the sectors/files have failed and the old OS is NOT showing at this stage, DONT carry on as it will load a new install and over write any data you have. If the original OS is not detected then you will need help from some one who knows how to recover your data. service technicians like myself do this all the time. Good luck.
PS: Remember to have your product key available as it will be needed during the reinstall. |

There is another way to see if the drive is readable, connect it to your mates PC in slave mode, if its a Seagate drive simply remove the jumper, other wise there is usually some sort of instructions on the drive saying how to set to slave / master etc. Once connected boot up the PC, then ( tech stuff now) go to start/control panel/(easier if you Select Classic view) double click on Administrator Tools/Computer Management then find Disk Management( on the Left). The main drive will be there and hopefully your drive as well, if it is, right click it, select explore then locate and copy data to other drive. |
