576942 2007-08-05 22:51:00 Hi Guys
I am having problems with the computer I use at work. Keep getting the error message above and would be grateful for a simple fix. I thought I had a free one in RegCure until they asked me to register it for $39.95.:(

576943 2007-08-05 22:55:00 If you use Win XP, go to Start>control panel>system>advance tab, performance settings, advanced, click the 'change' button, the change the virtual memeory to system managed, click 'set', and reboot.... SolMiester (139)
576944 2007-08-05 22:55:00 What OS? Is that the exact message? not, "virtual memory too low"?

Try Increasing the page file, or set it to system managed.

Right mouse on My Computer, properties, advanced, under 'performance' click settings, advanced, and click the "change" button down the bottom under "virtual memory".

576945 2007-08-05 22:56:00 Machine specs and OS type would be handy thanks.

Either you hard drive is running out of space (which would affect your virtual mem) or page file size is no longer big enough to handle the memory requests you're placing on the OS.

Cheers

576946 2007-08-05 23:04:00 Thank you for the prompt replies, I must be out of practice at this. O/s XP pro, hard drive not half full. On running reg cure it identified 1611 errors!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that got me a bit concerned. I got this comp when I started here and it has been a problem ever since. Slow to boot up and locking up, apps take for ever to open. I have thought of throwing it out the window but - the boss, you know?

I did as solmeister suggested but "I feel like I need something else". Maybe there is a program which will clean up the registry, I could do the CCleaner thing but it removes all your passwords as well.

576947 2007-08-05 23:07:00 Use ccleaner to get rid of the invalid registry entries.

And to remove the temp files etc.

576948 2007-08-05 23:14:00 in regard to using Reg Cure, i do not recommend that anyone should use this. i have seen it, and heard countless times completly screwing up the registry so bad, that the only solution was to reinstall windows.
I have used CCleaner with much greater results. only ever had one error with that and because i had backed my registry up, was able to easily fix the problem.

576949 2007-08-06 00:07:00 The govt has brought down work hour regulations for virtual memory and you are obviously not giving yours the appropriate breaks:D

Be careful of jumping to conclusions and running off down side tracks. There is little or no evidence that the registry is at fault. A registry cleaner co. touting for business will ALWAYS find heaps of errors!

My first inclination would be to run chkdsk on the drive to get a check on the file system integrity and bad block situation. Even if this shows no problems, it is a no cost exercise that needs to be done. Make sure your data is backed up and run chkdsk with the '/f' parameter.

I agree, reistry cleaners are only needed if said computer has had lots of applications installed and uninstalled . I would check disk fragmentation also .

How much RAM are you using, if you use Office Outlook, take cars not to let your mailbox size grow too large as this will use considerable memory also .

576951 2007-08-06 01:08:00 Yes I did a defrag last week barely any change to the disc after. Unfortunately after running CCleaner it is still giving grief. As for running chkdsk, How is that done? theother1 (3573)
