576570 2007-08-05 00:27:00 I have an HP Compaq 6710b Notebook with a 15.4" diagonal screen, (1280x800 pixel). I want to attach it via its VGA connector to my Epson EMP-S3 projector which I think has a native format of 800:600. I want to keep the projector set for 16:9 mode and show a stretched version of my PC screen that fills it.

For playing DVDs I can do this conversion using KMPlayer and it works perfectly. There is no additional hardware required so the conversion must be computed. Is there a means of doing the same thing for the PC's screen as well? If so where can I obtain the software?

Regards

576571 2007-08-05 01:43:00 Not to sure if I 'm heading you wrong with your question ( sorry if I am), you can change the screen sizes for the projector from the Laptop, as you do when playing a DVD. I use a player called ViPlayer www.urusoft.net its free and you can change the screen aspect ratio's, when playing a DVD on a 32" wide screen tv the 16:9 dont fit to well, so I select "stretch" and it fills the whole screen, I also use VLC media player that has a few more screen sizes. www.videolan.org I'm assuming that you want to play some sort of show, if not then you may have to play around with the PC's aspect ratio settings. wainuitech (129)
576572 2007-08-05 22:26:00 Thanks for your reply though I've already addressed the issue of playing DVDs on the projector. What I want to do is replicate the normal Laptop screen itself so that it fills the 16:9 projector screen in the same manner as some wide screen notebooks and PCs do. I suspect I may need to purchase additional hardware and am looking for any suggestions, hardware or software.

Cheers

576573 2007-08-06 00:40:00 Doesn't the projector have some sort of manual or digital adjustment for screen sizes, contrast etc ? wainuitech (129)
576574 2007-08-06 00:51:00 He could always resize the screen via manual controls on the projector but I would assume he already knows this and doesn't want to do it that way.

What he would have to do is force the image to be displayed at 16/9 within a 4/3 display.

I would say the best bet is to find a piece of software (if you can) that is designed to control the secondary output as Im pretty sure you cant do whats required through windows or in any video drivers (that I have seen).

The projector will always display in 4/3, It has no ability to do anything apart from receive a signal and project it. When a movie is played back just the viewable image is displayed as 16/9, the projector is still throwing up a 4/3 projection.

576575 2007-08-06 01:11:00 What are you getting on the projector screen when you view the desktop?
If you are getting just part of the desktop then the problem could be overscan and may not be fixable with the laptops video adjustments. I hope someone proves me wrong as I have a similar problem.

I believe you're on to it. I can of course move the projector closer to the screen and use less of it, but I don't want to have to move it. Nor do I want to fit black curtains that are adjustable as in a cinema. I'm happy to put up with a bit of stretch and the projector can zoom from 4:3 to widescreen which is the way I usually leave it. So footie players are a little fatter, so what. Projecting an image from my DVR is fine for most DVDs but not from my Laptop unless I use the right player. It's just unfortunate that until the player starts the desktop screen over-fills the screen verticaly and so do some software application, display outputs.

What should I search for on the web?

Rgds

576577 2007-08-06 02:24:00 Search for on the web?

I spent about 20 minutes searching for various terms and found nothing helpful.

I have the same projector as you, cant say I have ever had any issues with the image not fitting the screen after I set her up, there are many more configurations available then just zooming it.

576578 2007-08-06 03:59:00 If your laptop has an nVidia display card try
Right click desktop
nVidia Control Panel
Video & TV
Television
Adjust Screen size and position
Then adjust the size and position there.
Worked for me, thanx for making me look at my problem again.
