576526 2007-08-05 00:18:00 Any idea why Opera (for linux) won't play youtube videos. It just keeps loading ... and loading ... and so on.
Just playing round with it at the moment as an alternative browser (IIRC this is the same reason I ditched it last time). Currently using ver 9.22 (latest stable in linux)

Looks like it could be the version of flash thats installed.

576528 2007-08-05 01:09:00 Not all that sure but maybe they have not got a sniffer that detects the latest Opera. Each browser has suttle differences that have to be sorted by the site for everything to work 100% when pages are read. kjaada (253)
576529 2007-08-05 12:30:00 Myth,

I'm using Opera 9.22 with Mepis. Works OK on you-tube both for current Mepis 6.5.02 (Ubuntu base) + also new version prebeta 7.0 (Debian Etch base). Video and sound both fine.

On the debian base I'm using flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.48.02

Hope this helps.

576530 2007-08-05 14:29:00 I had the same problem on Fedora myself, also I have not had a problem with Opear and YouTube under windows. Getting the latest version of Flash or Opera hasnt helped. Now I use firefox while on linux. :( Cato (6936)

576532 2007-08-05 19:00:00 I never had any problem with Opera. However some months back I couldn't play any youtube or google videos with any browser - like what the person emntioned here.

After months of trying to fix it my Hard drive died. I wonder if the software that runs the videos it was on a bad sector, as everything works perfectly now with a new HD.

576533 2007-08-05 20:06:00 Ive just reverted back to IE. Seems everyone has picked up on the rat race now but the extras and upgrades are just getting silly. rob_on_guitar (4196)

Strange... I don't have any problems playing YouTube videos. The only ones that sometimes don't work are those on the TVNZ site.

Check out some of the threads on the Opera forums here (my.opera.com) for info on what to check for. Only thing is that they are for Windows Opera so I don't know if they will apply to Linux Opera. You can always post your own question if you can't find a resolution in the archives.

576535 2007-08-05 22:12:00 I have problems playing youtube videos in opera too. The video does start, but it stops playing after a few seconds, and the only thing that gets it going again is reloading the page, or seeking the video. Of course a few seconds after it starts playing, it stops. :groan: OS: Linux (Debian Lenny with a few bits of Sid), custom 2.6.21 kernel with the Debian patchset applied.
Opera: 9.22
Flash: 9.0.48.0
Thanks for the link Foxy - might mosey over there and see what I can see see see.
