2007-08-07 05:59:00 | You can't, ever, get a POST error message unless the CPU starts and executes the POST code (and, of course, there is an error detected). It's not magic. The POST is just computer code which has to be executed by the CPU. I got 11 fast beeps from my MSI KT4V (AMI Bios) when my old Duron got a cracked die from the volcano 9 on it + bumpy car journey Looking this up, it meant L2 cache failure. now I don't know if this would render the CPU completely useless, but I know it beeped at me.

2007-08-07 06:06:00 | I think you'll find that the POST doesn't use caching. It's certainly not needed. It's probably turned off except when it is being tested, and the same is likely to apply to any exotic features of a chip. The POST and BIOS CODE might still execute on an 80286 CPU. ;) The 12 volt supply has a 10% tolerance ... it's for motors, and they'll happily run at lower than 90%. The 5V supply has 5% tolerance, but that's a historic relic. That was required for TTL logic chips. All the "TTL" logic is CMOS now, and it can stand a bit more than 5.25V.

The beeps your pc makes on startup can be used to trouble shoot hardware problems. Let us know if the beep sequence changes. I had all the RAM sitting on the table Deamonhunter. I was just trying to prove that the BIOS is on the ball. It recognises No Ram and sends out what I think is the appropriate code. However, when the RAM is installed and the fault is on, there are no beeps. There is one Beep when there is "no" fault. (Now for the English lesson from Graham) |

2007-08-07 06:25:00 | how about these lists: www.bioscentral.com www.bioscentral.com Both have beep codes for bad CPU

2007-08-07 12:37:00 | Prime95 might be a good stress test also, Interesting to watch the voltages while under high load, see what happens... | Agent_24 (57) | |
2007-08-07 15:12:00 | For a more detailed set of beep codes see this (www.computerhope.com) Also, another good program for testing out your pc is this (www.freshdevices.com) I ran this constantly along side Prime95 (files.extremeoverclocking.com) which kept my cpu running at 100% for a while just to see how it ran, and how hot etc. it got. kinda interesting. There have been lots of posts helping with the startup problem, is this fixed yet or do you still need help?
