Turning the modem off and on fairly quickly often does not change the IP as it can often pick up the same port. You may want to try turning it off overnight which will nearly guarantee a change assuming you have a dynamic IP.

I have noticed some sites ban using a cookie method, so try clearing your cookies and temporary internet files, then re-signup.

A proxy as mentioned above would then be the next step.

577121 2007-08-07 06:19:00 Thanks for all the advice, I'll try it all. As I have a Mac I'm going to try that as I know that it hasn't been on-line to this site, the name of which I cannot mention as the last time I talked about a site like this I was pilloried....but your computer probably came in one, you post mail in one, and if you put "the" in front of it....... limepile (96)

Or check your ip before and after reboot, normally 10 - 30 seconds is enough for it to change.

I remember a few years back I kept getting the same IP even after leaving off for half an hour on Ihug, probably is Dependant on others cycling there modems on your exchange etc.

I suggested overnight as its easy to do while he is asleep don't have to explain how to get the IP CMD & Ipconfig. A few mins is "usually" enough I agree.

I'm quite happy to use ipconfig, all my comps on this router have static addresses that I set up using ipconfig, I didn't think that this was
the problem as the individual comps ips are different from the router.
Not explaining this well...
The ip I have from Slingshot gets the packets to the router, correct?
Then the router routs the packets to the relevant internal ip (192.168.1.3 etc), This has nothing to do with the assigned ip from my isp, which has not changed after 6 hours offline, so how can ipconfig change the line IP?
Annonymouse would work but its replying to the email thats the fly in that ointment!
Sorry surfer joe, so close ...a cardboard carton is one way to describe one,you would stand on one after the soap was removed, add .bz to the address and you've got it.
