577313 2007-08-07 01:06:00 Hi guys,

I bought some mp3's from the telecom music store. This allows to also download a copy to my pc as a wma file.

So I downloaded what i paid for, the file is sitting there, but when I press 'play' I get this message:

A Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM) component encountered a problem. If you are trying to use a file that you obtained from an online store, try going to the online store and getting the appropriate usage rights.

I did what it said and contacted the music store (telecom) who after putting me on hold for quite some time were as helpful as drunk taxi driver. Not very.

Anybody else have this problem as it is bloody irritating!

I think I said something about WMP11 and WDRMs a while back....:xmouth:

excerpt: MS has a Catch-22 bug.

"................(I) examined the HTML source on the DRM UPGRADE page. It seems to make calls
on Media Player to find out the state of the DRM licencing. But if you have
the C00D11E2 problem then Media Player returns the C00D11E2 fault report to
the HTML query. The UPGRADE page isn't expecting that so it fails with an
error and the button never gets disabled.
So if you have the C00D11E2 problem then the problem will prevent you
getting the DRM fix to cure the problem - its a good catch that Catch-22.

Wait till you try to play your OWN videos too!~

577317 2007-08-07 03:03:00 This is the reason that stores that use Microsoft's DRM and wma have not prospered as much as iTunes has. They are a hassel for the customer to use. winmacguy (3367)

As far as I know there is no single store that uses DRMd WMA formated songs that has been hugely successful with its online music sales compared to the iTunes Music Store. Microsoft also stopped supporting its "plays for sure" "guarantee" with 3rd party music devices when it bought out its barely selling Zune.

577320 2007-08-07 12:53:00 The only reason i got the tracks was by chance i saw a band that you cant get in new zealand without paying a incredible amount of import costs.

I is a happy chappy now. Even though i I had to do all that stuff that i still dont really know what i did.:stare:
