| 576910 | 2007-08-05 22:28:00 | Just wasted about 90 min trying to get a client's laptop to pop their xtra email while on my IHUG ISP . Got a 80042108 error . I had uninstalled Nortons, updated IE6 to IE7, installed Win Defender and AVG so I had plenty of suspects to choose from!!! Googling didn't get me a link with xtra and 80042108, either . To cut a long story short, much to my surprise and relief it worked when I checked the secure pop3 connection box and the port went to 995 . Looking at the xtra site I see a 'secure remote mail' service and reference to setting pop3 and smtp to secure and ports 995 and 465 . It also said that the pop3 and smtp servers should be pop3r and smtpr as well . Setting to the 'r' version gets you a prompt for username and password so I abandoned that . Talk about an expensive learning curve . Maybe google will find this for another searcher! |

| 576912 | 2007-08-05 23:04:00 | Thats very interesting...am going to go to xtra about that - if it does work, Xtra certainly havn't been extremely forthcoming in that information...they want you to pay them for the 'privelage' of downloading Xtra email through another ISP. Hmmmm.:illogical | wratterus (105) | ||
| 576913 | 2007-08-05 23:09:00 | So this works without subscribing to the Secure Remote Email which costs $2.50 per month? | FoxyMX (5) | ||
| 576914 | 2007-08-05 23:54:00 | So this works without subscribing to the Secure Remote Email which costs $2.50 per month? Seems to but they say the secure svc is free from 1 May 2007 for Internet access subscribers. (Trying to figure who does have to pay. Is there an email account without an Internet plan?). |

| 576915 | 2007-08-06 00:59:00 | Is there an email account without an Internet plan? there is at Orcon - I doubt if Xtra would ever have anything they didnt make a buck (or 6) from... www.orcon.net.nz pop3 and free for life - sounds like a good deal :) |

From previous experience you could always receive pop3.xtra but not send smtp.xtra from a non-xtra account. At least it works that way with Paradise/Telstraclear When I have laptop carrying guests staying they must set their outgoing server to smtp.paradise but leave their pop3 at whatever it was. |

Yes, that would be right . As far as I know you have always had to set your outgoing mail to your ISP and not Xtra (or any other ISP) but I have never been able to set OE to receive Xtra mail either . Mail from other ISPs, yes, just not Xtra . Are you sure that your Xtra guests were able to download their mail using your internet connection? I don't have a PC that has Xtra as an account at the moment so I can't try out linw's method but I suspect that one would have to pay the $2 . 50 fee each month to use the Secure Remote Email . |
