1418091 2016-03-24 10:02:00 I am trying to update my second computer, but some updates won't install. I am not sure if the updates are causing my computer to not start properly. I know I may have a memory issue but I can't use the memtest, because as soon as I load anything on the computer it freezes. I have had it running for a week now and it has been stable for the most part. Tonight it seems it doesn't want to stay running. Any suggestions as to why it keeps freezing. karbren (14078)
1418092 2016-03-24 19:51:00 Use memtest from memtest.org not the windows one. Which doesnt do much anyway. If this is what you tried to run Speedy Gonzales (78)
1418093 2016-03-24 22:34:00 Yes it is the memtest not the windows one. Now I am going to try Rufus karbren (14078)
1418094 2016-03-24 23:15:00 Sometimes the updates do cause problems, this can happen if they get corrupted somewhere.

What you can try is wiping out all the ones that are waiting to install and see if re-downlaoding will cure it.

Had to do this on a couple of W10's from customers.

Open a command prompt ( as Admin) type in the following, Pressing the Enter key after each command.

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
exit

restart your computer - Now go into the windows updates and manually run them, it will take a while to rescan for any updates, but it should download fresh ones.

If the latter ones fail, then type in

net stop wuauserv

Go into the C:\Windows folder, locate the SoftwareDistribution Folder, and manually rename it or Delete or cut paste out to someplace ( desktop) then restart and it will create it again - manually run updates.

Note: you Have to stop the update service net stop wuauserv Other wise the SoftwareDistribution folder will not allow you to do anything.

1418095 2016-03-25 00:02:00 I have tried and done all that a couple of times and still nothing worked. For some reason I can't get the USB to work as a boot. I get it onto it but it won't boot from the USB karbren (14078)
1418096 2016-03-25 00:03:00 I tried to update the drivers but found none that needed updating. I got it to stay on longer without freezing but still frustrating the hell out of me...... karbren (14078)

Some USB drives wont, even if everything is correct.

1418099 2016-03-25 00:59:00 I tried your suggestion of net stop wuauserv and moved the SoftwareDistribution folder but when I restarted (and I tried twice) it froze on start up karbren (14078)
1418100 2016-03-25 01:03:00 If ccleaner is installed boot into safe mode / networking. Then go to startup and uninstall. Click on save to text file. Copy and paste both of them here

So we can see whats in startup and whats installed
