1411837 2015-11-24 09:43:00 My mum is deaf and watches TV with volume at 88/100. I bought wireless headphones. My Tv does not have RCA output. Nor headphone jack. There is hdmi x3/usb/video/coax. I can not find words that say optical output. Tv is Veon 50" from warehouse. How do I connect the receiver for the headphones? Ataahuia (17424)
1411838 2015-11-24 10:08:00 Hi - does one of the hdmi inputs have the letters "arc" stamped beside it?

If so - that is also an audio out channel (Audio Return Channel) that you would use for a sound bar etc

I think you may be able to use it for what you want to do if there is an arc hdmi input.

1411840 2015-11-24 19:14:00 Some TVs simply don't have any audio outputs, in which case there's not much you can do (unless your audio source is an external device, e.g. Freeview or Sky box etc). inphinity (7274)
1411841 2015-11-24 19:50:00 I use Freeview rather than Sky, and plug the wireless transmitter's RCA plugs into the Freeview decoder. Works for all except DVD playback. This method doesn't affect the audio or volume for Herself - I can have the headphone volume as high as I need it.

In our old house where we had the TV signal from Sky running through the DVD recorder I plugged the transmitter into the recorder. It worked, but the TV image was poor (Sky) compared with our terrestrial signal which was HD. I worked out that I could watch terrestrial whilst listening through Sky, but there was an annoying time lag between audio and video.

My Freeview decoder is the basic model sold by Dish TV.

1411842 2015-11-25 18:54:00 Hi there. I have connected Freeview with coax between Freeview and Rv and rca to headphones but headphones not picking up signal Ataahuia (17424)
1411843 2015-11-25 21:16:00 Not sure what you are doing there. Coax goes from wall outlet to Freeview decoder, then (in my case) HDMI from decoder to TV. Wireless transmitter should have two RCA plugs, which are connected to the appropriate audio outlets on the decoder. There should be a power connection between the wireless transmitter and a brick (have you plugged that in and switched on the power???!!!!). My Sennheiser headphones require two AA batteries installed in one of the headphones - they are pretty tough on batteries. I gave up on rechargeables and just use ordinary batteries, in which case you need to remember not to leave your headphones on the charging cradle!

Try different channels on your headset, and make sure the volume control on the headset is set appropriately for the volume required... Sorry if this comes across as patronising, but people do make these mistakes.

There are lights on my Sennheiser wireless transmitter. One shows it is powered up, another shows it has an audio signal from its source (ie the decoder in this case). I think there is a third that shows it is charging the batteries in the headset, but I am working from memory on that one.

1411844 2015-11-25 21:25:00 Turn subtitles on. Then she can read whatever. Probably easier than trying to get these headphones to work Speedy Gonzales (78)
1411845 2015-11-25 21:28:00 The only problem I had trying to get them to work was when I tried to get them going through the amplifier. That defeated me in the finish. No problems using them through either the DVD recorder or latterly (post Sky) though the decoder. John H (8)
1411846 2015-11-25 23:37:00 Powered headphones is the key. Signals need to be amplified. Because of my old wireless phones are stuffed, I am currently running a pair of Sony Xtra bass phones using a Fiio DAC attached to the RCA outlets of my Freeview Panasonic HDD recorder. Great sound, just have to remember to charge the DAC.
