| 1411792 | 2015-11-23 22:05:00 | Jonah Lomu died from an embolism caused by the long flight from Europe. Sitting still, subject to high frequency vibration for long periods can cause blood to accumulate in the lower legs, especially if you have varicose veins. In some cases a blood clot can form. Upon resuming normal activity this clot can work its way to the heart and cause heart failure. I have been advised to wear Compression stockings when traveling to avoid this happening. Does anyone know how effective these stockings are? They cost about $50 a pair. |

We took him up Waitakere hospital where they did some blood tests and said he hadn't had a heart attack - he had asthma. Despite his protests he was given inhalers and sent away. he went to the GP who sent him for ultrasound scans (at a pregnancy clinic LOL), found several clots in his leg. When he saw the specialists she said he'd had a pulmonary embolism, hence the pains and fainting, but he hadn't died so never mind. He had warfarin for a few months, stopped and good since. They didn't have a clue why, but I suspect it was his weekend gaming sessions....told him to get out of the chair for breaks if he does that again. |

For those gaming or watching too much TV . |

For the same reason that those bed-ridden in hospital have to wear the compression stockings even with their legs horizontal. | Jen (38) | ||
