It's how they teach kittens, bring it back live and the kittens mess with it until they learn. Most house cats were never taught in the first place, and they do keep the kitten instincts. I've never seen any doco or read anything about any animal capturing another, tying it up, torturing it or such. never heard of any animal killing in unusual ways (acid, fire comes to mind) as a result of incorrect behaviours. All things humans do on a regular basis, and en mass too sometimes.
