When I go back - how do I then find the Product Number???? Would the originally used 'productkey.vbs' software work at that point - or do I have to go begging to HP on Tuesday? |

| 1418269 | 2016-03-27 06:09:00 | FWIW: I recently re-activated an XP-Pro installation, coming back from 7 and then 8 . 1 - for reasons that have been hashed about here in F1 already . Not going into THAT again --- I think you might be able to get your 8 or 8 . 1 activated by a phone call to M$ telling them the whole story . Yeah -- I was agape when I found them saying that I'd get a pass on XP one more time . Gasp! Not that I wanted to put XP on line again - it was an old bilabial fricative (me) not wanting to shell out for new hardware, or lacking that, a new desktop . (Gack! Saying "desktop" now-a-days is like marking yourself for euthanasia) . Ennyway - I hope you get it all worked out - Monday is another day, although as I can see by the old clock on the wall that it's already going to be Tuesday soon in Upsidedown Land . Or is that still Monday? Centigrade or Sillimeters? Liters or Ladders? |

It will be in the bios (usually), there are apps to extract the install key from the bios (wpkey : Windows 8 Product Key Viewer) . |

| 1418273 | 2016-03-28 21:13:00 | Nothing in the battery compartment. Which is the best app to extract the key (given that I have now upgraded from Windows 8 to 8.1 to 10)? | R.M. (561) | ||
| 1418274 | 2016-03-28 21:17:00 | www.nextofwindows.com I have used wpkey (Windows 8 Product Key Viewer) a few times. A link to it is in the website above. It may give 2 keys, one is the bios embedded key, thats the one you need. |

| 1418275 | 2016-03-28 21:23:00 | Ok - many thanks for that. You suggest that I try and see if one or the other works and activates - I'm presuming? :) | R.M. (561) | ||
