| 1418256 | 2016-03-27 03:06:00 | When you upgraded from 8 to 8.1, did 8.1 have its own Product key? Probably - but I/we didn't need it to Activate it - and I didn't go searching. It all happened automatically on-line. But not this time... |

| 1418257 | 2016-03-27 03:07:00 | When I recently updated our laptop from win7 to win10 there was no need to put in a key. Just skipped that part & it activated automatically after installation. Woops, must have been a bit slow typing that out. That's what is meant to happen :) If the install doesn't pick up the key, you can still install it, but you then have to select " I don't have a product Key" and when the option appears select the correct version for what is currently installed ( either Home or Pro) If a person selects pro, but has Home installed it will install but wont activate as the keys wrong. Just going through that at the moment -- Watched movie last night - then just as it finished ( rolling the credits) the Hard Drive decided to sh1t itself :( & I couldn't remember if it was Home or Pro, "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe" ;) At least we got to watch the movie :) |

It has provided me with more information - some that's just arcane - and all the licenses and keys for everything in the computer/laptop in the past . I believe it should work in Win10 too . |

It will show older keys, but you cant use these to activate as they are Factory keys, Also if you have done a upgrade to w10 then you will be giving up the previous key. Belarac will more than likely see the default keys TX9XD-98N7V-6WMQ6-BX7FG-H8Q99 and VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T for Windows 10 Home and Pro editions respectively. Been there done that many times. It may show you the BIOS Key, but again its useless as you cant activate with it. When W10 activates it loads in those generic keys and registers the hardware (motherboard) codes, you CANT activate with these. The only time this is different is if you actually purchase a Product key, its meant to retain it, depending on the licensing. |
