1412119 2015-11-29 21:53:00 I've never heard a yank ever call a router a rooter, only the poms. I remember back in the later 1990s a pom from UK Nortel came across to tell us all about Nortel Networks latest and greatest and wonder why the smirks when he kept talking about the office rooter. It was explained that it was called here a router and the office rooter was a guy always trying it on the the secretaries..

Correct, it's poms that say rooter. They also say dayta rather than data.

1412121 2015-11-29 23:18:00 I speak English, so to me Router is Rooter, & Data is Dayta.
I prefer Pussy to Fanny.
American spelling is phonetic so much easier to use.
Examples of weird English spelling: A: plow E: plough, both pronounced plow, yet cough in English is coff not cow.
The English Tomato is pronounced Tomarto. yet Potato is not pronounced potarto.
There is also a strange reluctance on the part of the English to use the letter 'Z'.

Route - the way you want to go
Rout - what armies do when they retreat
Root - (noon) The bit of a plant that goes into the ground. (as opposed to the verb to root) (actually plants root as well as humans

One thing I hate about American pronunciation is Word Processor.

But then again they may be right as we don't call an escort girl a pro stitite

I just wish we had never discovered North America.

1412124 2015-11-30 01:53:00 Then the north of England which didn't have much truck with the Great Vowel Shift say the Old English forms oot instead of out, coo instead of cow, and so on. Terry Porritt (14)
1412125 2015-11-30 03:46:00 Always smirk at the way the yanks pronounce router ( rooter) LOL.
