We had a problem with sound and also a line "top to bottom" of the screen.

Our TV repair man told us to take it to repair shop in Brougham Street, who in turn had Samsung put in new screen and hardware, no charge just had it 3 years.

Screen ok but sound worse than original bad sound.

Inbuilt Freeview, so thanks for the DVD recorder idea, will get son-in-law to see what he can do with surround sound.

1411848 2015-11-26 01:40:00 Oh, I hadn't thought of inbuilt Freeview. Our TV is a Samsung, but it only has a terrestrial tuner, so we had to buy an aftermarket satellite decoder when we moved here (there is no terrestrial signal available in our part of Taupo).

At one stage in the past I got the headphones going through the amplifier when we had the TV sound routed that way. I could listen on the headphones without cutting the sound off from the speakers, and hence didn't spoil the listening pleasure of SWMBO. However, we moved house and when I tried to get it going that way again, I was defeated by the complexity of the amplifier connections and gave up. That is when I used the DVD recorder instead. Good luck!

1411849 2015-11-27 08:39:00 Haha I know I sound clueless because I am with technology. The headphones work I can plug directly into I-phone, pair and wander around. I've just checked and think my issue now is with the Freeview being so old it has no hdmi Output. My tv has Freeview already but I think I just have to try get a cheap modern one. Thanks for all your help Ataahuia (17424)
