1417917 2016-03-22 01:01:00 About to get a 2TB drive, but wondering whether I go for the WD or Seagate.

These are my two options:
Western Digital Blue WD20EZRZ 2TB SATA3 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache

Are Seagate's reliable these days? I remember having an issue a few years back with a Seagate and have stuck with WD since, but I can get the Seagate slightly cheaper, and it's 7200RPM compared to WD's 5400RPM.

Any advice appreciated, and yes, I'll eventually get myself an SSD as a boot drive when I build my next system.

1417918 2016-03-22 01:30:00 I use both and haven't had any issues. Slight preference for WD myself as they've been more consistently reliable.
I use 2 x 4TB Seagate green drives to backup my 2 x 4TB WD RED NAS drives.

1417919 2016-03-22 01:33:00 Yeah I'm a WD fan myself but If the Seagates good, then why not. I'm just curious for opinions and experiences. goodiesguy (15316)
1417920 2016-03-27 01:39:00 It seems like tempting fate to even say "no problems with ...".

Anyway, it's odd, coz I too have got a small bias in favour of WD, altho I can't say anything to justify this.

However, most of my backup drives are Seagates, as more often than not they have had the price or capacity advantage at the time of purchase.

I've not had drive failures since well back in the days of IDE interfaces.
The more common issue (for me) these days is with the USB interface or USB bus when using external drives.

Wainuitech would know the latest stats on the reliability.....

1417922 2016-04-01 00:21:00 I've had such a terrible run with Seagate drives recently. wratterus (105)
1417923 2016-04-01 03:09:00 Like Paul, I have had problems with the USB interfaces. However, on the bright side, if the bad USB is USB2.0, replacing with a USB3 enclosure improves the package! linw (53)
