1411895 2015-11-25 19:00:00 How to get rid of 'Pavement Ants'?

There are a few annoying colonies of 'pavement ants' moving out the sand fillings of my driveway pavement. I have used fly sprays which kills them almost instantly but they just come back pretty soon.

What do you people use to stop this?

1411896 2015-11-25 19:21:00 Neverong ant killer, put it near the trails. Quite effective. I used to see it in small brown bottles in the supermarket. www.yates.co.nz probably the same one. dugimodo (138)

The Raid version works well too. Get at the Supermarket.

1411899 2015-11-25 22:22:00 I have an ant colony living in the house walls.

Bait doesn't work - not long term anyway.
You have to kill the nest.

To do that you need to find the nest, then get access to the nest.
You can follow the scouts, that will tell you where.....access is another matter.

Almost completely useless, and the OP already mentioned trying it.

fly spray kills the ants you can see and that's it. Ant baits/poison either gets taken back to the nest to kill them all, or are consumed and poison the ant slowly which then dies in the nest and is eaten. Either way they are designed to take out the whole nest.

1411902 2015-11-25 22:44:00 Yes. Raid. Look for where the ants pop up out of the ground put a ring of Raid around it. It takes a few days to kill the nest. Those that eat Raid die in the nest & are eaten by the others who then die as well. PJ Poppa John (284)

But they don't.

Ants' tastes change during the year. They usually prefer protein in the spring and sweets or fatty/oily foods in the summer.
They have to ALL be collecting and eating the bait and with outdoor nests that is unlikely, scouts go all over and several food sources are taken back.

If you kill some worker ants, the queen will just lay more eggs to replace the workers you’ve killed.
