The case in question is the Raidmax O2 302 (with RX-500 PSU).

So this is what happened - 1) brought it home; didn't boot - faulty power cable

2) still wouldn't boot - my mains power wasn't providing a sufficiently high/steady voltage; bought a UPS and began to work

3) then almost immediately became erratic - shutting down randomly and then refusing to start up

4) PSU replaced; got it back and worked fine for a few hours (restarted it once or twice) but this morning - won't start, the mobo LED isn't alight - nothing.

I am assuming it's another dud PSU, so if people would like to make suggestions for a case/PSU (I need to replace both because the case and PSU came together) that is above all reliable? If it's quiet that would be a benefit, and I don't want to spend too much more than I did originally ($121) but I realise the quality may cost a bit.

Somebody mentioned the Silverstone ST405 as an example of a decent PSU. Any other suggestions? As for the case I couldn't really care less what it looks like - the less fancy the better.

Thanks

What is the issue with your mains power that made you buy a ups?

578419 2007-08-08 22:49:00 I prefer Thermaltake PSU's myself, I've got a 400W PSU which runs pretty good and silent at that compared to my previous Task PSU.

If you suspect the power supply into your house is an issue then get your power company to check things out for you... otherwise you'll be shelling out for a problem that actually has nothing to do with the PC's PSU at all.

Cheers

578420 2007-08-08 22:50:00 Apparently mains power supplies can vary (from street to street) so that some do not supply the full voltage. The PC would start up everywhere else but not at my home, regardless of which power socket I used. The UPS appeared to fix the problem, although of course other problems arose shortly after. jackwass (12442)
578421 2007-08-08 22:55:00 Sounds to me like you've got some dodgy wiring in your horse!! wratterus (105)
578422 2007-08-08 23:07:00 Dodgy wiring it may be...but am I right in assuming that whatever the mains situation is, the UPS should regulate the current/voltage and provide a "perfect" stream of power? jackwass (12442)
578423 2007-08-08 23:14:00 It should, assuming theres actually enough power in the first place, although to some degree the UPS should iron that kind of issue out. It's as if theres simply not enough voltage getting to your house...I'd get your lines company to have a squiz... wratterus (105)
578424 2007-08-08 23:20:00 That's what I would have thought, except that we've never had any issues of this kind before, running any number of appliances (including for example XBox, TV and big stereo amplifier all off a multiplug off the same plug).

Also, I checked the power sockets with a multimeter and it read steady at just over 230V (and the UPS puts out 232V or something itself.)

I got a Gigabyte Posidian case for $137, no PSU, but nice case, toolless too. I used a Hiper 370W psu with the HDMI version of your motherboard.
