578161 2007-08-08 07:50:00 hey there, ive run into another wall, at the moment i have my server pc, with one ethernet port running win xp, and my computer running vista ultimate x64 connecting to the internet thourgh it, im wondering, how can i set up another computer, to plug into my main computers second ethernet port, to use the internet through the server from the main computer, so like this:

Server<<<Main<<<2nd

can it even be done?

578162 2007-08-08 07:56:00 yes this can be done, not too hard either.
on your 'main' pc, share the network connection that is currently connected to your server, then your '2nd' should be able to see this connection.
Set your '2nd' to automatically get its IP address etc. and you should be away.
Let me know how you get on.

578164 2007-08-08 08:09:00 If the server is set to: 10.1.1.1 / 255.0.0.0 then the 'main' should be on something like: 10.1.1.2 / 255.0.0.0.
If it is set up like this you should be ok.
I will test it on my pc's and let you know how i got on.
catch you shortly

[edit] just remember in the advanced properties of the network connection to enable other computers to connect through this device.

when i diagnose the second lan connection it says "Does not have a valid ip configuration" >_> annoying

and the other computer isnt being connected at all, doesnt show up anywhere on the main computer, and says limited or no connectivity

578166 2007-08-08 08:19:00 Ok, on the Main computer (the middle one) the connection it uses to connect to the server is shared - correct?
are you able to see this share on the other pc when connected in via the other network card?
Are you sure you have got the 3rd pc set to dynamically get IP address and DNS?

578168 2007-08-08 08:34:00 Ok, so on the middle pc, set the 2nd nic (network interface card) to an ip range, say 10.1.1.* / 255.0.0.0 and do the same for the nic on the xp machine. Then see if you are able to ping FROM the xp machine to the vista machine.
Also check your firewalls etc. have you got them blocking ip requests etc?

let me know what happens with the pinging.
