577856 2007-08-07 23:10:00 hey guys

ive overhauled my system recently. its got a GA-965P-DS3 REV 3.3 mobo, celeron D for processor and a 2GB ram. i used my old DVD RW drive and the old old hard drive. everything is running pretty good on windows xp, but then when i wanted to play my backed-up DVD movies (on DVD disk)...........it wouldnt play.

ive got the full version of WinDVD, Real Player and Windows Media Player up to date. it all worked fine on my old system but now i couldnt watch my movies.

anyone encountered this problem before?
Thanks!

577859 2007-08-07 23:39:00 Download and install k-lite codec pack (www.free-codecs.com). (3.3 full) See if that helps any... also try downloading VLC (www.videolan.org)media player if that doesn't work. wratterus (105)
577860 2007-08-07 23:47:00 Cheers, ill try them out tonight.
Is there any known issues for playing backed-up DVDs? I was wondering if thats the case.

577861 2007-08-07 23:53:00 Not really, as long as the burn went through OK and you 'finalised' the disk, although with a PC that shouldn't matter. Good luck. wratterus (105)
577862 2007-08-08 01:11:00 It can depend also on the DVDs. If you have x8 speed dvd's which you burn at x12. The result can often be that the dvd will actaully burn, usually pass the 'finalize' test. but when you actually come to play it, it is buggy, glitchy and just plain nasty.
The use of cheap DVDs can also make this happen.
Have you tried playing a 'normal' (like a bought, not burned from your pc) movie? did it work properly?
You may wish to use ImgBurn (http://www.imgburn.com/) to burn your movies onto disc - this is for .iso btw.
I had the same problem as you are having, the problem was cheap dvds that burned ok, but simply crashed the system when trying to play.

577864 2007-08-08 06:36:00 And if you do have WMP 11, then your only hope is to uninstall it and revert to an earlier version. Don't you just love MS and its upgrades!!!
Remind me why I should upgrade (?) to Vista ?

577865 2007-08-08 06:46:00 You may also wish to look into the drivers etc. you have got installed for your DVD drive, and also what media drivers you have installed.
Try updating these and re-installing your media player after this, and then let us know how you got on.
