577696 2007-10-20 03:02:00 Did try Nod32 suite trial and found it a bit heavy on the system, but that was years ago now and may have become better

Is Kaspersky "light" enough on the system as well as all that good stuff written in reviews?:)

Nod32 is Very light on the system, more so than Kaspersky is.

What is the Best AV ? well that depends on who you listen to. You cant go by test results as they all differ so much, depends who does the testing, when and how they are tested, You can get two different companies testing the same software, both with total different results.

Personally I have seen many PC's that have all the main AV's installed over time, and some are infected more than others. Some People have AVG for example and dont have any problems, others have lots. I use Nod myself, and its found infections that all the others have missed (Even Kaspersky).

NOTE: Infections, meaning spyware and Viruses.

Generally here though - its stay away from Nortons - any version, Free AV's normally Avast - Paid hmmmmmmm Nod32 or Kaspersky.

577697 2007-10-20 03:13:00 I had AVG free, but its not free anymore, is it? It shut itself down on my PC.. Damz (10942)
577698 2007-10-20 03:34:00 Thanks for the heads up Wainui, really appreciated. I wouldn't suggest norton to my mother in law, so no worries there.
One more thing, if possible; what is the footprint of, say, Nod32 versus Kaspersky and which is the most "user friendly" (works out-of-the-box)?

I can assure you AVG is still issuing a free version, the version I have installed is 7.5.488...I think...and updates itself regularly, and I have got it from the mother source at free.grisoft.com;)

577703 2007-10-21 00:57:00 Maybe I missed it...bit I tried to see if it was mentioned...but I guess not.

What about your Router?

It's my first line of defense...it's a hardware firewall.

After that...I use (here come da flames)

Windows Firewall....

Spybot S&D...

AVG Free...

I dumped Soyware Blaster and AdAware

Just recently started running Comodo's BOCLEAN...so far..so good.

Had Zone Alarm for a while...it drove me nuts with all the blocks and toast and just got me tired of it really fast

With this six unit LAN and another server, I've not had D.O.S. or blockage from any of the anti-stuff I use at all.

Teatimer WILL hold back some of the Windows Updates...just shut if off if you have a problem two times in a row...but it really is getting pretty intelligent to let M$ updates get in OK.

The only problems I have with Spybot updates is when I hit a very busy or dead mirror.

A friend or two on dial-up have some more troubles with Spybot...but I think it's just a dial-up problem...not DSL.
