577686 2007-09-21 06:00:00 Funny how some versions of ZA use Kaspersky as its AV program / engine, and thats its last in this review. Speedy Gonzales (78)

What about if your PC gets infected and is then used as a zombie PC to do DOS attacks, or other illegal goings on, hacking etc - it would lead back to your PC even though you wouldn't be doing the attacks - personally with good free AV's about its nuts not having some sort of protection- your choice though.

If you do that you still end up going around in circles with your new PC so you don't end up achieving anything. It is better to be protected from the Get Go.

Thats like saying, "I dont do oil changes on my car, if it gets really screwed up I just buy another one, or get it fixed"

Why? Just a little prevention could save SO much hassle

577692 2007-10-13 23:03:00 Well I use clamav on occasion with kerio 2.1.5 as firewall.

Have never had a virus or a bit of malware as long as I can remember.

Mind you I always use a restricted user account for regular PC usage and steer clear of outbreak and Internet Exploder like the plauge.

Perhaps if 99% of people would not run as admin all the time then 99% of the nasties would not spread so much?

577693 2007-10-14 00:54:00 i used to use norton years ago when you only had to pay for it once and not pay a yearly thing. i didnt use firewalll or antispyware because there was no such thing called spyware back then. but now i use avast home edition, spybot, ad aware and zone alarm. but mu za isnt up to date because i only have dial up and i cant be bothered downloading the 39 mb file every time they update it so i wait for the next pcworld cd with the latest updates. but its not like it stops viruses all the time because i know i have a few on my computer now just avast dosent know about it but sometimes detects them but they aren never really removed are they because mine keep coming back like once i got a computer guy to fix my pc because i couldnt acccess the internet it kept saying "page not found"he fixed it last year and now its started happening again. but my av hasnt detected anything yet nerd (109)
577694 2007-10-20 01:41:00 I used to use ZA and McAfee for security, until one fine day ZA (expensive little thing, by the way) decided not to load any longer and not unistall or re-install:illogical So I biffed it, and since I was at the end of McAfee subscription and had few viruses sneak into my pc, i decided to review that side as well. Did try Nod32 suite trial and found it a bit heavy on the system, but that was years ago now and may have become better with time.
So, I gave AVG free a go and downloaded Sunbelt kerio PF...never had a virus since (about 2+ years now) and never looked back. Having said that, though, I must add that just recently I had a problem loading the FW at startup and had to re-start the pc to enable it to load. Something very annoying as far as I am concerned, so I was thinking of going financial again and give Kaspersky a go, what do you people think? Is Kaspersky "light" enough on the system as well as all that good stuff written in reviews?:)

Well, what if youre the only user on a computer?

Why create another account?

You wont get nasties alright, you wont be doing much of anything! Most programs usually need admin access to install .

Its P2P programs, IM programs, cracks / warez sites that give you trojans / malware .

Nothing to do with having Admin access .
