577676 2007-09-19 09:14:00 I also use the A2 (www.emsisoft.com) stuff as another occasional check, the symantic freebie rootkit thing, and spybot.
Wow this got dragged out of teh depths.
A2 i have used - very unsuccessfully.
In the short amount of time i used it for, i found it completely useless.

577679 2007-09-19 23:56:00 Hey everyone.

Personally I would recommend NOD32 for Anti-virus

I was using it untill it let a email attachment through: "greetingcard.exe"
Its a Malware/spareware file
Seems if it wasnt a true virus then NOD wondnt detect/block it
Was 6months ago, perhaps they now include spyware in the sigs
Also found that Xtras email scanner didnt detect it, CA (Vet) & another
I cant remember.

You really need a true antiware scanner bundled with the Av scanner.
Just why they cant just include spyware in the signiture updates I dont know, then the one AV program would catch them all.

Ive also found that most of the realtime antispyware programs arnt very good at blocking spyware infections (they do however clean most of it off after the infection)
Quite a few of the PC's infected with spyware bought into the workshop for
cleaning have realtime spyware scanners that have let the spyware straight through.

577680 2007-09-20 00:08:00 Kaspersky may be good, but hell I 've had a few hard times trying to uninstall it when the customer didn't want it any more - talk about put up a fight to uninstall - worse than try to get blood out of a stone:D

The other side of that - Kaspersky said several PC's were clean - Nod32 found bugs. Real world workings - better than lab tests.

Ive found that Kaspersky has been the best in real world cleaning. Not the most user friendly package thou.
Havnt tried NOD in a big way though.
Kaspersky also detects & removes alot of the spyware, which NOD wouldnt(when I last used it)
However Kaspersky isnt cheap, & its hard to sell AV packages to customers
when they know they can download AVG for free.

Ive been finding most infections nowdays seem to be spyware/malware related, not true viruses.

How did you find the registration/activation process for NOD??
The AV product the Boss wants us to sell is allways out of stock from the supplier

Oh I know they are around but they don't worry me. They didn't bother me too much when I was running Windows but I certainly wouldn't have gone without AV there.

Well there are loads of viruses out there (170,000+ for PCs) as well as a huge Storm Worm bot net consisting of about 2 million compromised PCs being used to remotely flood the interweb with SPAM and contributing to a range of DDoS attacks.

That's the latest word from security researchers who are tracking the burgeoning network of Microsoft Windows machines that have been compromised by the virulent Storm worm, which has pounded the Internet non-stop for the past three months.

 Good call. Have you tried Avast Home Edition? A lot of people prefer that to AVG.

577685 2007-09-21 02:08:00 Australian PC AUTHORITY October has just done a comprehensive review and here are the results

Make of these results what you will . . . . BUT it is MOST IMPORTANT that you do not just take one test as the ultimate answer . Also some other good packages were not tested for one reason or another . I am not sure why BitDefender was omitted for example .

All AV tests are done on a basket of test Viruses and different testers use different packages and so get different results .

You can see a dozen reviews of AV software and all will vary, so treat these as indictive only .

A 2 star in one area doesnt mean it is bad, just that it is not as impressive as others in that area, likewise a 6 star only means it was the most impressive of the group .
