578115 2007-08-09 01:46:00 Son did this with coffee.

The keyboard was the only part affected, he killed it basically.
His kb was easy to remove, didn't need to dismantle the entire thing, but alas cleaning procedures unstuck them but didn't fix them and he wouldn't replace the kb which would have cured it.

So does he get his"Stubbornness" from his Mother or his father ????? PJ

578116 2007-08-09 01:59:00 Don't rinse out the bulk of the laptop. Just the keyboard. If that doesn't succeed, it's reasonably cheap to replace.

You are more likely to wreck the main board. Liquid is unlikely to get past the keyboard, and if it did, you need expert to deal with it.

578117 2007-08-09 02:44:00 If any of the wine made it past the keyboard you will need to get this cleaned out. If you are not at easy dealing with computer hardware i do not suggest you to do this. It is a reasonably easy thing to fix, but does need to be done correctly.
The wine does need to be cleaned off, because it may have made its way into the little 'nooks' and will set and dry on parts that will get extra hot and may cause issues later.
Any computer technician should be able to do this with ease.

It was more he didn't want to pay for the new KB. That would eat into the beer money wouldn't it.

578119 2007-08-09 05:12:00 Thanks everyone for your contributions and suggestions . You are the best!!
I have sent some of them on to Marc .
One time I knocked my glass over and although it was well to the side of my pc, a little red wine splashed on to my keyboard . Even though I thought I had carefully cleaned it off my z character kept coming out as zzzzzzzzzz:eek:

Cheers,
Marnie

578120 2007-08-09 05:51:00 I've spilled wine on every kb I've had :p

Luckily just generic desktop keyboards. Quite robust even with a big spill. The silent ones with 101 individual little rubber booties are the biggest pain when dis/re-assembling.

578121 2007-08-09 06:27:00 Friend of mine spilled water on their laptop, and the water served as a conducter, and the keyboard short-circuited out and 'wallah!' that was the end of their keyboard?
btw - it was a mac, so that explains a lot of it

578124 2007-08-09 13:27:00 I would say the recovery of the last drops of wine may be more trouble than it's worth.

A Dell in the oven for five minutes and still working fine, you gota love that for quality.
