2007-08-08 06:35:00 | I told him that ADSL is a permanent connection to the internet and dropping 5 times a day is not very permanent, he told my that ADSL is not a permanent connection and drops happen. strange that the ADSL page of IHUG says "Broadband is fast internet that is always connected so you can get more out of the internet than ever before." Ok, so they are trying to be utter jerks, the guy you are talking to probably doesn't even know what ADSL is, he was given the job because he can speak english and read from a book of instructions that the company gave him, and is happy to work for $1/hour. True drops happen, but nothing like that, i haven't had a drop for about 3 weeks now. what you have to do: Resort to the Spam effect. This is also what i had to do, it will take up a fair bit of your time, but it will pay off. You ring up about every 15 minutes and demand to get your problem fixed. Tell them that you wish to be taken off their RDS Service. if they ask what this is, inform them that it is their Random Disconecting Service. (i actually told a guy this, and he went away to the manager to try and work out what the RDS service was:D ) Each time they will tell you that no such thing exists, insist that it does because that is what happens to your ADSL. DO NOT hang up the phone until you talk to the manager, and never believe the 'he is out at the moment' excuse because he never is, the manager is there, they just don't want you talking to him. If they say they can't get him, tell them that you want his cell phone number, or speak to the next in 'command' whatever. DO NOT hang up. Keep pestering them, again and again and again, demanding that the problem gets fixed, and eventually they will fix it just to get you to shut up. They don't want to have to do work for their customers, they just want you to believe that they are GOD and if they say you get disconected, well, that is what happens. It is your job to tell them that they know nothing, they are lazy and GET MY PROBLEM FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok, hope this helps, this is what i went through, it took about 1 week of the constant phone calls ae. Good Luck!;) ;)

2007-08-08 06:48:00 | Okay, time for me to be arogant but I didn't read any of the posts in this thread (let alone the main post) BUT Try getting a new modem for free from Telecom (if they originally sent you out a free one if you signed up with them, like I'm sure we all did :P) I just told them my modem stopped turning on (I had the old Gen 1 G604t) and they sent me a new G604t Gen II modem for free, all I gotta do is send the old one back in the supplied courier bag. I'm with Xnet and they don't care, they (apparently) don't even check the modems you send back either. And I'm sure a lot of you might be angry at this but hey, it's revenge for them giving me utter BS that they call broadband. They must have heaps anyway. might help with the drops.

2007-08-08 07:02:00 | lol, i did this too ae. modem wasn't at all faulty but never heard back from them lol! Unfortuantly though i doubt whether this is the problem. One thing that robsonde could try though is: 1 - have you got the modem plugged into a highly-sensitive surge protector? tiny little power spikes can sometimes cause disonnections - this was the cause of the problem a friend of mine had. 2 - Is it plugged into an extension cord? bad because of above reason. 3 - is it sitting close to other electrical devices, pc, fridge, etc. because the electromagnetic fields sometimes can cause interferance - only needs to be about a meter away though.

2007-08-09 01:04:00 | router is pluged in to UPS. all network stuff is long way from any non-computer equpment. todays phone call with IHUG: I ask what the results of the analizer test was? the monkey tells me that with only 3 dropouts in 24 hours this is not a fault and nothing more will be done. I ask for a supervisor or manager. he puts me on hold for 8 minutes then tells me that he has spoken with the manager and there is no fault, and the manager is going into a meeting now. I have ask that the manager ring me back soon as he is out of the meeting. the monkey has told me that will be in about an hour.

2007-08-09 03:18:00 | after the manager dident ring me back..... three more calls asking to talk to the manager and i got one. he has told me he will see what the operations center can do for me and get back to me before end of day. PS: i know this is becoming a bit of a blog but i think its good to let others know about the bad service of ihug.

2007-08-09 04:24:00 | Oh yeah, I remember with Telecom I was getting dropouts. They said 17 dropouts within 12 hours was not bad. I mean ***? How many is too many to them? 100? 1000? ISP's are pathetic when it comes to this. 5 dropouts within 24 hours should be bad.

2007-08-09 04:43:00 | My Xnet person says it can be: Faulty filters Faulty Modem Faulty line which is why Telecom monitors it for 24hrs to pick up where in the chain it is.

2007-08-09 06:37:00 | My Xnet person says it can be: Faulty filters Faulty Modem Faulty line which is why Telecom monitors it for 24hrs to pick up where in the chain it is. Having dealt with many problems very similar to this, i very much doubt whether it is either of the first to, but the 2nd is a posiblity. However, robsonde claims that it was only after he changed plans that the increase in dropouts occured, indicating that it was a problem with the port down at the exchange. robsonde, just keep demanding that they monitor your line for longer, and keep gaming or doing whatever you do when you get the most number of dropouts, and just remember, it should be like a max of 1 -2 dropouts per fortnight, not several a day. Shoddy service :annoyed:

2007-08-09 07:06:00 | robsonde, just keep demanding that they monitor your line for longer Further to my comment. Our little exchange can't use the line monitoring monitored because its too old and sad. Of course. No doubt theres tons of other things we can't have because of it.
