2007-08-08 07:22:00 | A friend knocked his glass of wine onto his laptop. Are there any "first aid" measures he can do to save it? He has mopped up all the moisture he can. At the moment the words come out scrambled. Thanks for any help. Cheers, Marnie

2007-08-08 07:29:00 | for sure. now i take it that the wine actually went all through the keyboard am i right? if so, how confident are you at handling computer hardware etc? Because the solution is to take the laptop completely apart (well the guts anyway, not the screen etc), and rinse with distilled water. For hardware such as the hdd, just wiping it will be fine. After rinsing it, leave to dry and then reassemble only after you are completely sure that everything is completely dry. If you are not confident enough to do this, then take it to a computer technician asap, and they should do it for you. If they say it can't be done, send it to me cos it has been done! A friend of mine had his pc in his house when a flood went through it, came back a few days later and pc was full of crap, rinsed it all thoroughly and it still works!:D Just use google, there are many people who have done just what you have done and there are easy solutions

2007-08-08 07:57:00 | Well then lets hope he has a sunny day coming out soon. Damn red wine drinkers in the USA, I always see laptops out on the line over there, once I even saw a child who had red wine spilled on him on the line.

Cheers, Marnie USA eh? ok, just don't dare let him take it near The Geek Squad. They are little morons that think they know what they are doing but don't lol. Hopefully it works again, he won't have lost any data anyway, but that is small condolence when your laptop just shat itself lol |

2007-08-08 23:12:00 | Fairly obvious to me. the words come out scrambled because the keyboard is DRUNK. let it sleep it off. PJ  | Poppa John (284) | |
2007-08-09 01:43:00 | Son did this with coffee. The keyboard was the only part affected, he killed it basically. His kb was easy to remove, didn't need to dismantle the entire thing, but alas cleaning procedures unstuck them but didn't fix them and he wouldn't replace the kb which would have cured it.
