579668 2007-08-11 15:51:00 When launching My Computer or anything that opens Explorer'Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and must close' then Doctor Watson comes up and does the same . . . I've tried AVG and used HouseCall 6 . 5 . .

and this peice of advice:

Try Firefox and avoid IE

sorry but this problem has NOTHING to do with IE at all . . . . . . . . the post stated:

When launching My Computer or anything that opens Explorer

I had a problem with explorer before similarly . . . . . . . in the end after MANY attempts to fix it I did a 'repair install' and that cured it . . . . . . . seems it is possibly a corruption or similar in explorer . . . . . . . . . you could try simply replacing the explorer file

579669 2007-08-11 20:47:00 Regardless of that I would still replace IE with FF. I would only be using IE if some particular online gaming site demanded it because they were too crappy to code their site for FF. winmacguy (3367)
579670 2007-08-12 04:03:00 Have you scanned for any viruses or spyware?

System Specs?

579671 2007-08-12 06:02:00 Try running a HijackThis scan and posting the logfile here so you can find out if there any nasties present. beeswax34 (63)

Well it does remove the problem of trying to "use" IE in the first place :)
