579286 2007-08-10 22:16:00 A mate has purchased a new computer with Vista on it and finds AutoCad 2006 won’t work. He checked with an AutoCad dealer and was told he’d have to buy the latest version of AutoCad for the give away price of $7000!:waughh:

Has anyone else struck this, or know of a work around?

Sounds queer to me.

579287 2007-08-10 22:18:00 You can only check with AutoCad to see if they are going to produce a driver that will allow your version to run on Vista. Bryan (147)
579288 2007-08-10 22:37:00 Has he tried running it in compatibility mode as XP? Or even better I have found is to run the .exe or install in that mode. Worth a try. intel hunter (6666)

Probably uninstall Vista and install XP would be a better & cheaper option. After all, there is very little essential functions (or none at all) that Vista has and XP doesn't. To spend $7,000 just to get AutoCAD to work with Vista is hard to justify.

579290 2007-08-11 01:25:00 If you wanted to have Vista as well, you can always have a duel boot setup, run any programs on XP that wont run on Vista, and select the OS you want when on startup. Done that a few times for people who dont want to fork out for new Software because of Vista. That way you have the best ?:waughh: of both worlds. wainuitech (129)
579291 2007-08-11 06:28:00 I like Vista but for $7000, even I'd go back to using XP. Dual booting might also be a very good option to consider if you have an XP disc. beeswax34 (63)
579292 2007-08-11 07:23:00 Even if you dont have an XP disc, purchasing XP as OEM, with additional hardware is still a lot cheaper than $7000 wainuitech (129)
579293 2007-08-11 07:49:00 Just an update on this one .

It appears AutoCad 2006 won’t work on Vista’s XP simulation! :annoyed:

It also appears that neither Microsoft or AutoCad care . :stare:

AutoCad obviously see the BIG $$$$$$$$ for you to upgrade & Microsoft simply don’t care .

Great isn’t it?

In the meantime, he’s set up his two computers with a “Belkin Flip” which to me seems awful similar to a KVM switch .

So here’s a warning, It would seem that Vista has many fish hooks as well as killing any programme it “thinks” may be pirated . A case of Guilty until proven Innocent, but that's the American way .

Well, he does everything, but dislikes houses. I think one of his most recent efforts was an whopping great Caterpillar Engine driven Power Supply for a Drilling Rig.
