579394 2007-08-15 08:05:00 In XP I get an ip address: 00-14-85-ZA-B1-04. Yet in ZoneAlarm there's only spaces for 4 pairs of numbers - it won't accept letters? straka01 (310)
579395 2007-08-15 08:10:00 Oops!
When I scrolled further down I see the IP Address I was after. Sorry about the last reply....

579396 2007-08-15 21:19:00 I've not been able to get this network to work. I've turned off the XP Firewall and configured Zone Alarm to allow the Trusted IP address of each PC. I've run the network setup program and loaded the sofeware on both PCs.
The Local Area Connection panel reports 'Little or No Connectivity' at 100Mbps. I've tried the repair facility several times but the result is the same.
What's annoying is that when I had two Win98 PCs networked - it was fine, but now I've got this new replacement running XP - it just won't work! And I thought XP was smarter & easier to set up networks....
Is there any windows programs that specifically need to be on or off? Perhaps some of the settings in the Administrative Tools are wrong? What critical networking features should be running in here...?
Any further help appreciated.

579397 2007-08-15 21:57:00 Ok

Have you tried turning off zone alarm on both machines to see if the network will work without ZA going, (make sure you aren't connected to the net),
do you have any shared folders to actually see

I turned off ZA on both PCs (while they were both offline) and I've made sure there are shared foldrs on both PCs - still no luck.
Is there somewhere were I should enter the path to the win98 pc from the xp one? If it can't find it automatically maybe I can type in \\MUM\Data or the IP address of MUM's PC?

579399 2007-08-17 23:59:00 Look here (www.zonealarm.com)

It SHOULD show the name of the onboard LAN / adapter, you DONT put an ip address in.

Also MAKE SURE the workgroup names on both are the SAME.

579400 2007-08-18 00:21:00 Should my ethernet controller / subnet be in 'Internet Zone' which blocks everything? I can't edit the zone to trusted so maybe I could just delete that zone in ZA? straka01 (310)
579401 2007-08-18 00:27:00 You can try,and see if u can add the network in tursted.

I cant remember what to do, Im not using ZA.

579402 2007-08-18 00:30:00 Just tried but it won't let me delete it.
Would you be fairly sure that it's Zone Alarm causing the problem? Perhaps I should remove it from the XP PC andlet windows configure it's own firewall?
