BIG stuff eh:thumbs:
How much RAM does he use?

My brother-in-law uses this software

Sorry but I had to correct this one. A driver is for getting a piece of hardware running within an OS it is the program that has to be upgraded to run under Vista.
I would run it under a virtual machine as it is easier than dual booting

I don’t know, but I’ll ask next time we’re in contact.

Knowing him I’ll bet it’ll be full noise. :D

I think the whole idea of the new machine was to be able to add more RAM plus of course a nice new 19” screen. ;)

That sounds a good idea Mike.

Can anybody elaborate on how to go about installing/using Virtual Machine?

19" screen is a bit small for large scale engineering. My old work screen for design was a 20", the biggest I am aware of is around 30"
If your friend is moving to Vista 64 Bit he should be able to have up to 16GB of RAM (depending on his work's budget)

579301 2007-08-12 10:20:00 AutoCAD 2006 will work in Vista. I can't remember how but I think one of the method was to run the program under adminstrator rights. I will find out tomorrow. I have AutoCAD 2006 running under Vista at work. I found it to be really slow and need lot of RAM preferably more than 1GB. AutoCAD 2006 run best under Windows XP. stingray (12122)
579302 2007-08-12 10:28:00 Most AutoCAD design style programs require as much RAM as you can throw at them hence the benefits of 64bit OSes that can utilise up to 16GB of RAM. winmacguy (3367)

I've had Win2k running within Qemu under linux. Haven't got Win95 running yet. You could try the Windows version of Qemu (fabrice.bellard.free.fr)

579304 2007-08-12 21:09:00 Yes, you have to click it to run under Adminstrator. Failing this change to Win XP. Cheaper option this way.
AutoCAD 2006 will not work in 64 bits O/S The AutoCAD 2008 will work in either 32 or 64 bits O/S.

579305 2007-08-12 22:29:00 It seems, more specifically, the programme wouldn’t Install on Vista .

Even though all his disks are legit the Install Programme won’t run under Vista, so it doesn’t even get to the disk .

I guess you can’t run it if you cant install it .

It would also seem that AutoCads arrogance and greed has invited the Pirates along and Pirated Copy’s of 2008 are going for $100 .

It would also seem that the $7k price tag is a Special for Australia & New Zealand .

Elsewhere in the world, genuine copy’s of 2008 can be purchased for less than a tenth the price .
