579135 2007-08-11 00:20:00 I had a quick look at poptray after one of your earlier messages but at the time already had mailwasher installed and running.

Good thing about Poptray is I just use wildcards (*@email.address/domain), this blocks EVERY email that may come from a known domain.

You dont have to worry about adding filters, or keywords/sentences.

I've only added 2 rules. And told both to delete emails from the ISP server that match the rules.

If the wildcard matches wherever the spam is from, it gets deleted. End of story.

All you get are valid emails from whoever (which can also be added to Poptray's whitelist).

579136 2007-08-11 00:35:00 Mailwasher is similair is style, white list / blacklist, can create the domain rule where anything from *@.....com gets deleted etc. I don't have many rules, probably about 5 for example those lonely girls want to share picture email me at.......@.....info in the body, am looking at maybe having to reformat later as I make some adjustments so was going to give poptray a work out as a comparsion to mailwasher.

Biggest difference between the 2 is that poptray is free while mailwasher is free or paid version, I am using the paid version of it.

579137 2007-08-11 02:33:00 Getting a new email address is only a short term fix. In another few months/weeks, you will have the same spam problem. You need to get the correct filters etc and actually fix the problem, not just put a 'bandage' on it.

Also, I hardly get any spam. I don't sign up for "Get a FREE PC TODAY!!!" adverts and other stupid stuff. Post your address on the internet and you will get spam - its as simple as that.

Email addresses are like underwear. You shouldn’t leave them out where people can see them. And you shouldn’t give them out to strangers.

Awesome, no chance of getting spam here. Only problem is if some poor soul is trying to contact you for the first time and they aren't in your address book :o

579140 2007-08-11 02:52:00 You are spot on, sign up for everything that you come across and use your email in newsgroups or give it out freely to everyone and and it will quickly get picked up by the spam bots. Having had a email address as long and old as mine, it has taken a while but it is slowly getting traded about or someone gets lucky with there random address generators.

I use a separate spam email address for those sites that requires a email address and can be easily changed on a whim.

In the last couple of hours though already see'ing a drop off to more average levels of junk so maybe it is just some spammer who has had a rush of spam to the head and gone silly. Speaking to some others this morning, couple of others have also seen a marked increase in the last couple of days while others haven't seen any increase so maybe it depends on which spammer(s) has your name on there list.

579141 2007-08-11 06:26:00 Spam in my Gmail: 2 in about 2 month:thumbs: beeswax34 (63)
579142 2007-08-11 21:00:00 I have an email for work, forums/net, online games, personal and a hotmail one for things i am not sure about.

All of them are with different mail services, the worst i found were hotmail and surf. But I think it's because I use them for the forums and net stuff.
