579375 2007-08-11 03:39:00 Hi all

Just upgraded my RAM, PSU & Graphics card
(I am so proud of myself :nerd: )

(I also cut out the grill over my rear case fan, cut out grille and installed a new front intake fan with filter, and cleaned the filth out of the case........ gosh I can hardly hear it running now....... wonder why ;) )

However something strange did happen when I booted up.
Two of my USB devices spat the dummy and appeared as new hardware......
They were my web cam and my UPS.

I re-installed the software for the cam and it runs fine but the UPS software keeps telling me it cant contact the UPS. I have checked all the connections and even tried swapping the USB's around.....
Why would it do this?
I used the configure settings and tried to detect the UPS but still no luck.

The UPS is a Powerware 5110 and the software is LANSafe.
It has been working fine for months.

Anyone know what to do??
Many thanks

Meg

579376 2007-08-11 03:57:00 None of those upgrades should have upset your usb.

I assume you're using Windows... if so have you tried another USB device in the socket that the ups was plugged in? Um, I guessing the webcam worked ok in the usb socket that the ups was in?

Also if you're using XP you can go into device manager by control panel> system> hardware> device manager and click on usb controllers in the list (it could also be under 'other devices'). It might show a yellow ? or warning sign beside one or all. You can click on the offending usb item to troubleshoot and may give you the option to re-install the drivers.

If you have installed a second set of usb sockets (ie an additional usb card that plugs into the motherboard) it may require it's own drivers/software, but the the original sockets should still work.

See if that fixes it.

I take it the UPS is connected and plugged in?

579379 2007-08-11 04:06:00 Hi Guys
Thanks for the advice.
I had checked out device manager and there were no yellow ? on any USB controllers. Just the Battery-UPS connection
Anyway to cut a long story short I have fixed it.....

Now I am off to take this revamped baby out for a test run........
Back later dudes :)

579381 2007-08-11 06:28:00 Been Simming now for over 2 hours and not so much as a hicup!
I am SO HAPPY!
Haven’t been able to play Sims2 for longer than 15 minutes for the last couple of years!
Sad when you consider the following:
1) I specifically had this pc built to play Sims2
2) Sims2 is really a SAD game!
(I never had a dolls house when I was little.......:(

I am about to install Dawn of War (it came with the video card) and take that for a run......

Oh happy day!
