578817 2007-08-09 23:07:00 Hi and top of the morning to all :waughh:
My sister has given me her laptop to have a look at and I have found a lot of nasties on it, I seem to have got rid of most so far. Her Firewall & Anti virus, had been disabled and the security Notifications as well. she has also been locked out of the control panel. They seem to have taken over admin rights, Is there any way I can access Local security Policies?
I can boot into safe mode and log in under Administrator account and get into the control panel from there, but under Admin Tools the Local security policie "secpol.msc" is not there? Doesn't show up in a search either. I cant access "add or remove programs". System restore did not work. Windows XP bye the way. Is there any hope:badpc:

578819 2007-08-09 23:27:00 You could try and see if trojan remover will install in safe mode.

If it does, install it then click on scan.

578820 2007-08-09 23:28:00 Formatting is always the last option for me when i run out of every other possible option. Any if you are planning to do just that than dont forget to backup all the files and also emails. Most people back up all their files but forget to backup their emails. ronyville (10611)
578821 2007-08-10 01:05:00 Run antivirus and antispyware programs on it in safe mode firstly.

Then do a Repair Install on it.

578822 2007-08-10 01:07:00 get an adaptor or usb external case and slave the drive to another pc then run a few scans.....that'll kill the problems drcspy (146)
578823 2007-08-10 01:09:00 You Can also install Nod32 in Safe mode, when you reboot it will start scanning right away. It will also remove the bugs, but It can also cause the PC not to boot correctly aftrwards depending on what the infections have damaged. www.eset.com you can get a free trial from Eset wainuitech (129)

If TR runs in normal windows then, update it then click on scan again, then select all options under the utilities menu.

See what happens then.

If there is still something on the system reinstalling over Windows, wont help.

Get hijackthis in my sig as well. Put it in its own folder, run it then click on scan the system and save a log. Post the log here.

578826 2007-08-10 09:10:00 ok thanks speedy in my haste didn't see the xtra utilities. I have all control back and it seems no nasties. I have tried to install avg anti virus witch it seems has been on the computer before. it installs ok but at the end of installation it says "Local Machine: Installed successfully
Commit:
Warning: unregistration of product AntivirusProduct with ID [3434.....}
ERROR 0X80041013"

And the windows security centre says no anti virus installed. Every thing else seems fine, tried unistalling and reinstalling no joy, Anti virus control centre says all ok though?
