579878 2007-08-12 06:57:00 I've just been working on networking our two home PC's. I've run the network wizard on one and now I have struck another problem. When I boot up it goes straight to the Administrator user account. My user account is DAD. It takes quite a time to logoff and login as DAD each time - it's a real pain.
How can I alter the startup settings so XP automatically loads up in the DAD user account? Cheers

579879 2007-08-12 10:04:00 Download and install the Windows XP powerToys from microsoft.com and run Tweak UI. Click the "+" beside Logon and click Autologon. Check the box and type username and pw.

To (maybe) fix the logon delay, disconnect the network cable until after you have logged on. The reason for it being so slow is because the PC trying to connect you to the other PC BEFORE showing you your desktop.

Hope this helps!

control userpasswords2

Click OK.

In the user accounts window there should be a box you can tick at the top that says something like 'Require username and password to be entered at login'

Note: this does not work in XP Pro or home, on any of the XP pro machines I have used.

Works for me. Used it on Vista Bussiness the other day.

Other way is go into control panel, double click user accounts. If passwords are set for all accounts when windows starts up it will stop loading at that point and wait for you to click the username and enter the password.

OR Change the way a user logson/off turn off the welcome screen and it just has a Username/Password box like NT, Win2k etc had. That is the option I use on this PC.

I must have used this on about 50-60 machines running Home & Pro and never had any problems with it.
